Hi:

Device any that connects to a tv, you want good processor speed, sticks are goid but small and restrictive. A laptop with a cable will do depending on the laptop. Boxes are good: do not buy from uk suppliers as they keep customer lists and you could be tracked. Order from abroad. Kodi is on the play store so us kodi tips app that's all you need

Do not buy pre loaded. To much crap on them. Much better putting your own stuff on. First few times putting add ons on can be tine consuming but once you've done it a few times it becomes second nature. Either that or download a build to suit you.

who knows

Do not buy pre loaded, you can put kodi on pretty much anything depends how where you want to view it.

Pc ,android, ipad some versions, apple tv some versions.

Best easiest is amazon firestick if want it on tv.

Get it from tesco, argos etc.

Read a few, watch a few tutorials etc and follow what they say.

Then voila a home entertainment system

Fully loaded are shite....so much has changed since they were loaded.

The likelihood is they won't work

Amazon Firestick you can download Kodi on to it, a good YouTube channel from a British guy is ASBYT, one of his videos shows you how to download to the stick and then build channels. He updates regularly so any 2017 builds will be on there as well.

Chromecast.

You don't need to build or update anything. Just plug it into the back of your TV, connect it to your wifi press the cast button on your website of choice and watch.

That simple even my husband can use it

This, but use the Openelec distro (rather than Retropie) for a pure Kodi box.

Will do everything but 4k video, HVEC 265 can be a little slow sometimes as its software decoded.

Fire stick is the easiest if you don't want VPN. But with the recent European Court rulings, you might want to give that some thought. They say they're not coming after the viewers, but they're not making promises.

The original Fire stick (no Alexa voice remote) can't handle VPN directly and has to be configured through a VPN capable router. The later one (with Alexa voice remote) can handle VPN natively, but you need to choose a provider with an Android client that works well without touch screen or mouse. The IPVanish one seems to be okay.

Raspberry Pi works well once you have it configured. If you don't know Linux well, then getting it running with VPN requires a bit of research. Android TV boxes will often leave you at the mercy of the software that's on them. You might be tied to their VPN options or have none at all.

Just a note on the router....you may have to buy one to do this as I believe a lot of routers provided by your Internet provider will not configure the vpn.

"Just a note on the router....you may have to buy one to do this as I believe a lot of routers provided by your Internet provider will not configure the vpn. "

That's where I find myself. My EE Brightbox router does not have VPN support, and even though the model numbers appeared to check out okay, I have late model non-Alexa Fire sticks, which seem happy to run VPN clients but don't actually route through them, offering you no protection. Don't assume you're protected because the software appears to run. You need a "What's my IP?" type app to confirm.

I'm using my Pi for Kodi at the moment (though I've hardly bothered since Agents of SHIELD ended.) My longer term plan is to set the (or another) Pi up as a VPN router inside my own network and then manually configure a static IP and gateway on the Fire sticks to make them route through the Pi.

I will get around to doing it one of these days.

You can google "how to install kodi" the official kodi site has links to installer packages for every device imaginable. With the recent legal shutdown of pirate bay and the big UK TV providers joining forces to crack down though make sure you have a good VPN and be prepared for it to get harder and harder to use or get content.

Alternatives to consider are showbox and mobdro from an android to a TV using screen mirror or h2szgemma satellite receiver vox, again a good VPN required and purchase box from abroad.
