Dogs !

Do you prefer 'proper' dogs or the smaller 'yapping handbag' types ?

I like 'em small but full of character - jack russells and the like

I prefer dogs that are dogs, not the yappy little things that are carried in handbags, they aren't dogs!!

I love Rotties, and Dobermans, and the like, although my all time favourite has got to be huskies, or malamutes.

my last dog was a greyhound (hilda)

she was just ace - tho not if u were small and fluffy

am thinking it's about time i had another - it has been 9/10 years

jack russell / yorkie cross breed is looking fave at the mo

i would love summat big - like ridgebacks, dobermans, pointers, labs etc but not got vast amounts of space + am no good at picking 'big poos' up - small ones i can cope with

Well this isn't really the thread for you then hun is it!

I like alsorts of dogs but I like them to be treated as dogs rather than fashion accessories. If they are toy dogs the are still dogs, I don't like them being carried everywhere.

I have a medium dog (English Springer Spaniel) but she numbers a Jack Russell, a Rotterweiler, a Weimaraner, and a Border terrier among her friends, and I love 'em all!

" and a Border terrier "

see i like them too

i guess i like the kinda dogs to represent the kinda men i like - looking a bit rough and tough round the edges, playful with a cheeky attitude, full of energy and with a healthy interest in sticking a 'bone' in their mouth

I like spaniels (apart from King Charles Spaniels, can't stand their sticking out eyes). I like all gundogs really, wouldn't have an Afghan hound because you wouldn't be able to tell us apart.

Apparently dalmations are difficult to train, don't know if that's true or not. I don't like dogs that chew or destroy things, thank god I've never had a dog that does that. My springer is very well behaved but she's got a lot of energy, even now and she's 11, and this has to be walked off

i don't know how true it is, but i have heard people say in the past that due to progressive breeding, the dalmatians head shape causes brain development issues - that in turn leads to the training issues and that as a breed they tend to be a bit 'potty'

don't quote me tho

its not so much the breeding issue, its the color, same as harelquins in the greatdane species,m they tend to be a bit loopy, we see a lot of it at work woth both dalmations and harlequin greatdanes, but all breeeds thanks to inbreeding to keep the gene pool and kennal club lines pure hav a lot on inherant genetic problems

yup - that's why i prefer x-breeds

out of interest, how does the colour affect their loopiness levels ?

Big or small! This is the reason we don't have a dog in our home.

Mr, yes Mr, wants a small dog (not necessarily for his handbag!) but a small, yappy little thing that wouldn't really take up much room at all.

I personally want a dog of a much larger breed such as a Great Dane or an Old English Sheepdog.

Until he gives in to my demands our home is a woof woof free zone

Don't know if people know this about Dalmatians but the reason they become so easily overweight is because of the huge amont of exercise they need, at Least 2 hours a day.

This is because they were originally bred as carriage dogs ie. to run alongside carriages as a status symbol, so had amazing stamina!

Love them both to bits.

Came home the other night to an empty house, without the pair of them to greet me. Felt really strange!

Bless them both!

Love them all big, small, yappy and slobbery. We have a Lab cross who has one of the best natures I've ever come across, we brought her on the family camping holiday this year for 10 days and she just went along with everything. Have some lovely photos of her in the canoe with us.

Proper dogs everytime, used to get attacked by the same Jack Russel on every paper round i done, had it hanging of my elbow one day with the old dear saying " aww he's being friendly", was it balls. On the other hand the 3 alsatians were fine, especially the one on the police dog unit and his sniffer dog, spaniel i think.
