Just try to relax as the plates close together if uncomfy ask them to stop and adjust im sure they think all boobs are the same i have to stand on a step as too short

Yes just that. They're normally very good and realise you're scared and nervous. But try and relax as much as Possible x

My mum had one and said the nurses were lovely, a little bit uncomfortable (as is a smear) but nothing to worry about. They've seen boobs of all shapes, sizes etc, so try to relax x

Definitely nothing to worry about. Little bit uncomfortable when the plates press down but only for a few seconds. The staff will put you at ease and talk you through it. The machines can adjust for your height too

I get them every year now and takes longer to get undressed than it does to do the actual test x

Had one on Wednesday.. nothing at all to worry about.. just follow nurses directions as to which position your feet and arms need to be.. boobs get a bit squished.. but its over before you know it! A x

In the middle

It is a bit squishy as they have to get as much boob on the plates as they can so you have to twist and turn a bit but honestly it's nothing to worry about. I have been twice and the ladies are wonderful, friendly and very professional

Basically your breasts will be flattened into a pancake one at a time and a picture is taken from 2 different angles. The radiologist is very good at getting you into the correct position if you just relax and let them move various body parts to where they want them.

Pain wise for me ranges from discomfort to a bit ouchy but it's a quick procedure so doesn't last for too long.

Rather than flattened like a pancake, for little boobs it seems more like them being gently mangled...They count down for you, from 6 so you always know how long you have to cope before the squeezing pressure is released.

You have to take off your bra and then put your top back on while you wait for your turn, so choose a top which you're comfortable wearing bra-less!

Takes less than 5 minutes, the staff are very confident, handling your pride and joys with care but knowing exactly how they need to be positioned!

Results took less than a week, amazing service I reckon!

I echo what's been said above.

They don't provide gowns so you will need to wear a top that you can slip back on while you're in the waiting area.

I'm a little over 5ft and have never found it a problem. The nurses are experienced, efficient and kind.

It's your choice whether to go or not but I choose to go for this and my smear test also the hugely undignified bowel cancer screening that you do at 60. We call it pooh sticks in our house

Read up on the disadvantages of having one too. The results may increase the rate of unnecessary surgery.

I've had two. Some women find the boob squishing painful, some completely painless.

My last one was very painful as I get pre-menstrual breast pain and my period was very close, the nurse told me to take painkillers an hour earlier if the timing works that way in future.

Otherwise, it's uncomfortable but only for a few seconds each time, it can feel a bit odd to have someone squashing your breasts between two plates though

A necessary evil, family history of breast and ovarian cancer.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I had my first last week. Its not as bad as you think its going to be. My nurse was brilliant, and, as I have squashy boobs, it wasn't uncomfortable at all. It takes about 5 minutes.

They seem to trialling 47 in lots of areas. My best friend has a friend who was called at 47 and they found cancer.

She's fine now but it's a good thing they did have a 47 year old policy there

Just look at the documents before you go (in case you need to full anything in) I was the only one that had actually filled out the questions prior to turning up, and those who had to complete it delayed the appointments.

I'm terms of the actual procedure.., like others have said, it's a tiny bit uncomfortable but the ladies that conduct it put you at ease and look after you xxx

I have had a boob job (uplift and implants) and they were able to still do the mammogram without any fuss xx

I wasn't asked to go for one at 50 though that's the age they start here. I had sudden unexpected bleeding from my nipple and was literally seen and booked in for surgery within 2 weeks. Thankfully my results were all clear and a very common problem. But couldn't fault them and the scar isn't very noticeable now. X
