End of term

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Another school year over and the long summer vacation has started.

We always have a feast to start the holidays and congratulate the kids for doing so well. We have another feast on the last night of the holidays to mark the lovely time we've had having them around so much.

Do you have any special end of term rituals?

What's the guess on the first thread about kids spoiling someone's fun?

Not a feast. But we used to have so muched planned. My son was joined at the hip with his best friend so me and his mum took it in turns to do stuff. His friend came on holiday every year. I loved taking them away. Callum still remembers those holidays

Brilliant! I missed it but I'm always surprised and amused how soon into the holidays they appear.

This is also the quietest period for FAF messages. The Sunday night before schools go back they suddenly explode again with a whole slew of newbies.

Yep, they all spilled out at 1pm around here. Although we got a bonus week last week for our school as there was a H&S issue.

Try not to run the little swines over as they insist on messing around in the road....main roads I might add.

Off to devour the feast now.

The feast is a lovely idea!

Re the last point - I'm guessing it'll be about a week before the threads/statuses start going up!

Terrible that they have to miss out on fucking a complete stranger because their kids are at home!

Tbh it infuriates me so much that I contemplated staying off fab for the 6 weeks hols!

My son went to his dads every year so I didn't have to miss work. We weren't allowed to take holiday during school hols due to it being extra busy. They'd go abroad and have a wicked time.

He moved there almost 2 weeks ago.

Kids are flying off to Spain on Monday so I've got my daughter and 10 of her friends staying over, pool party for them followed by food and movies. Some of the parents are here for a bit though I would gladly let one or two of them stay the night

Ah Lickety I like the sound of this

When the kids were younger we used to organise a get together in the park, play games, picnic that kind of thing.

Now they're older and friends go to different schools we try and get a few days out booked instead.

I always make a big deal out the summer holidays.

Off to West Wales with my cherubs tomorrow. Looking forward to it as we have lots of outdoor adventures in the School summer hols as more spread out and doesn't feel like cramming everything into a short week.

Then after West Wales we go to Legoland. They are so excited about that it's unbelievable!

My school hoilday program is rammed, me and the kids have got so many adventures planed. We have no specific school holiday rituals as such. I lobe the summer holidays because not only do I get to spend some quality time with the kids free of the normal routines that get in the way of hanging out with them such as work, washing, getting the school stuff ready for next morning etc.

Plus as an added bonus of the holidays I get a holiday too. They are off up North to their Mums for a bit in the holiday too and I have some time off when they are away as well. It's so rare to get a real break (as much as I love them), I can't wait for that either.

The summer holidays should be a joyous time

When I hear people complaining about them I wonder why they had children in the first place if they don't want to spend great time with them

I know it can be hard for those who have to keep working and the costs of the summer break are considerable if you have to find and pay for childcare.

Now that they're all teenagers we grab the time they let us have. Plus, I will bribe them to do something with me and they WILL like it, whatever they say.

We sit down to eat together most nights (the older one less so) but it's just a nice way of being together and knowing everyone has at least one thing that is their absolute favourite.

A world of my own

Ours have been off for 3 weeks now. Sadly I've not yet had any time off with them. However the annual leave commences next week!

We always keep busy and so far they've had lots of fun days with their big brother and friends.

We have a trip to Blackpool planned, more swimming, more parks and beach trips, a visit to see friends in Glasgow and another few pj days too. Also hoping to have the weather for a bbq.

Feeling a tad guilty that I've got 4 days of mum time in leeds planned for a wedding. However will make it up to them with our family holiday in October x

We are taking our 6 year old grandaughter to Spain for 2 weeks in August

Can't wait to spend some quality time doing the things we used to do with our own when they were little

We should all enjoy our children whilst they are little because they grow up so fast !

I spent 10 years at boarding school and we had 8 weeks Summer break. It got a bit boring(not) after all the other kids had gone back to school and I was left to my own devices and I had to entertain myself

This was back in the 70's by the way

My lot broke up on different days and one had a full day, where the others had half days.

I took the boys to the park yesterday evening, while girls went dancing. The park is our evening ritual, in dry weather.
