Maybe the other mourners would frown on it.

your imagination

No. Mass itself might last up to an hour... the added time is to allow mourners who cant go to the cemetary to express their condolences to the family outside the church after mass, and for the funeral cortege to make its way to the cemetary if its not adjacent to the church (some processions can be on foot).

The service in the church, I would doubt will be much more than 3/4 hour. The time lag is all the transportation time for the coffin and mourners between the end of the service and the slot at the Cemetery . The service at the cemetery would be about 20 minutes normally.

That's a better explanation than mine

If you didn't like the person so much, it's absolutely acceptable to play mario kart.

Ah, I see. You're the 'I didn't know the geezer' person at the funeral just there for the vol au vants, chicken wings, and garlic bread.

That's how most of the ones I go to are. 2 day wake, then church for an hour, then the cemetery for the burial, then food and drink afterwards into the night. It's more exhausting than a wedding.
