Having now completed a few half marathons and 10ks (in no amazing times), I have decided to jump into the deep end by signing up to the Wolf Run (Warwickshire) and Spartan Beast Race (Windsor) in Septmeber.

Any advice can anyone give on training tips?

Or if anyone else are doing these races then feel free to say hi and say how your progress is going.

"Both of these are in my race diary "

Yay, a response!

Have you done these type of events before? Any advice for a newbie, I'm going to try and put the miles in so at least that bit I can be confident in.

Any advice on trail running shoes to buy?

Hi!! I've done loads. There's a real OCR community out there especially in the Midlands. Trail shoes, I wear More Miles Cheviots which cost about 30 odd quids, a good first shoe but I've stuck with them X

Interesting! I shall have a look at the brand in a bit.

I'm a little nervous as I feel a may have bitten more than I can chew, however, I feel I needed that shot of fear and motivation.

I'm hoping this can be the start of a long journey completing these crazy events.

If anyone else are doing tough mudders, other series of races, inflatable races etc. Feel free to swap stories or tips etc.

I may sign up to the 5k inflatable Zombie Survival run on 28th October in Newbury as it looks hilarious

I'm a Triathlete but not racing any more this year due to a few niggles that I'm letting recover before starting back for next year but all I would say to you is that nervous is very normal, just try not to let the excitement take over you at the start line, just take it steady, pace yourself and trust in your training and you'll be ok

Good luck and most importantly enjoy it

I have done a few OCR - Tough Mudder being the longest. If you are a runner then you should be okay with training plans etc; circuit training, core and upper body strength are important. However the ethos is completion not time, even if you fall off/fail at an individual obstacle keep going and cross that finish line. The hardest part for me was the running in between the obstacles- I am not a built for distance running, I have just signed up for my first half marathon and I am not looking forward too it. At least with TM it was broken up with obstacles!

Do the training and you'll love it!

Yeah I have to not get carried away like I have done in half marathons etc. Almost reign it in first few miles. I'm sure it'll be fun, bee working a lot on grip training in gym. Dead lifts, low rows, pinch grips, dead hangs etc

Thanks man, yeah it should be fun. I'm nervous about the Spartan Beast race as it's 14 miles and it's a 30 burpee punishment in any obstacle you donot complete. Just slow and steady I think for me and try and see the enjoyment in whatever is throw my way

I've done a few, total warrior, rough runner, endurer dash and tough mudder. My favourite was tough mudder, yes it is the longest and hardest I've done but it is so well organised with drinks stations etc.

Rural Wiltshire

I have done Tough Mudder, Spartan, Tough Shit, Major Series and enjoyed them all. Major series and Tough shit was with a massive group and we just had a laugh. Spartan was a few friends and we pushed ourselves quite hard and enjoyed it. Tough Mudder was good but I will not be rushing to repeat it as it is very expensive. There are lots of alternatives which are just as good.

I am focusing more on cycling at the moment.

PM if you want any more details. You have to love burpees as they are your training friend.

It's nice to see a community of fabbers into this. I'm looking forward to my first one on 2nd Sept. Feel alright for the wolf run.

I've been doing 2mile run then 50 burpees, repeat and repeat.
