he had a mental illness, the only people who can understand are the ones who are there as well. when its got a hold of you then rational thinking goes out the window. kids and relatives don't fit into the equation when you are that far on the edge.

and it also shows that money doesn't buy happiness.

I agree, when you are in that state of mind it's not a decision you take lightly, you genuinely believe the people you leave behind will be better off without you to screw up their lives, it's done with the best of intentions!

Unless you have lived with mental illness/depression for most of your life, as Chester had (or at least live with some you love with it) you'd be unable to appreciate how truly tragic life can be. The emotions depression cause are far from selfish. My thoughts and love go out to Chester's friends and family. I hope they can draw some sort of strength from is sad event. Even if it's the fact we're all openly talking about it.

I think until you have experienced really deep depression you will probably never understand. I've been in that situation where I was on the brink of taking my own life but somehow managed to fight it. I now have no doubt that it may come back to haunt me again but talking about it and seeking some form of help really helped me. You are NOT weak in seeking help as I always thought.

Who will actually know what dark place a person's mind is in to actually take their own life. It goes against natural impulse to survive so one can only think the mind is very distressed to do it. I'd say selfish are the ones who kill their kids then themselves. Sad he felt he was beyond help.

It's not selfish. The guy was obviously very ill. I hate reading comments like this about suicide. My friend's fiancé took his own life. He was suffering so much with his depression and he just couldn't cope. It was no more selfish than someone severely poorly with a physical illness.

There are no words to adequately describe the depths despair that drive a person to suicide, the bottomless black hole you fall into that makes death seem the only way out, or the serenity of making the decision and planning to take your own life. When everything is overwhelming and you feel like you're drowning, this is the one thing you can control. Speaking as someone who actually committed suicide and was brought back

The comments I'm reading from some people are just sad clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I've had a family member commit suicide it's never a first choice for anyone it doesn't matter if you have kids are rich famous ect depression is a killer end of the despair people feel that this is the only option is just heartbreaking and we should all feel lucky we don't feel the same.

Linkin Park were the first band that got me into metal, I loved the aggression in the music and vocals and helped me release a lot of my anger due to my own battles with mental health. Hearing this news earlier has really upset me especially as it seems he took his own life. Depression and other forms of mental illness affect people in different ways. Where one person can cope day by day others are looking for an end to it.

To quote one of Chesters lyrics...

I agree with you. I was talking with my son on the subject of males committing suicide last night, because one of his 19 year old friends recently hanged himself. It's very sad when anybody commits suicide. I have also attended coroner's removals of suicide victims. For people to call them selfish and say they don't understand how they can do it is just heartless and cruel. There is a general lack of understanding of males emotions in this country and others. People should show some compassion or keep their mouths shut XXX

Statistically men are 3 times more likely to commit suicide than women. Especially in the 45-59yrs age group. With most suicides being in the Yorkshire & Humber region of England.

In 2015, the number of suicides in England was over 4,500.

There needs to be more help and understanding for people with Depression and other mental health problems.

It's ok to be not ok.

It's ok to talk.

Mine were due to being slightly Aspergers and not knowing what was wrong- the all encompassing social life of university crushed me and pushed me right to the edge.
