Mine's just 'come on' again in my left ear. Grrrr.

It's just like someone turned on the whistle.

Hoping I'll tune out from it again soon. Any good tips for doing so?

It's infuriating isn't it, I don't have tips to tune out but have sympathy. I have it pretty much permanently these days. Never thought about the damage I was doing when I were a sprog.

A few drops of olive oil at body temperature help it. A warm pack on your neck after just bellow your ear.

Much of the time I don't notice it until some sick mentions it. Posts a thread or something

Every now and then I suddenly become aware of it again and it stays with me for an age.

Any sort of noise to distract he brain from the high pitch.

There's no cure, but there are some actions you can take, white noise works for some.

Tesco does sell ear drops that will give you pretty instant relief too.

Really? Never heard of these. I just try to distract myself or listen to music just loud enough so I can't hear it.

It fucks up my sleep. Days are okay, listening to music in the day works, but nights are a pain.

I don't really know. It's quite high but not as high as the note you get from electrical things that whistle.

Less caffeine and de-stressing is supposed to help.. Read as well that Cordyceps are supposed to help but haven't tried them..

I also have it 24/7, can be in either or both ears.... sooooo annoying, and difficult to get people to appreciate the effect it has on general life.

There is no such thing as silence when you have it... especially when it switches on LOUD.

I did find a fun app a week or so ago... its a signal generator for your phone and by carefully adjusting the frequency it produces, you can identify the sound in your ears.. mine is 1958hz.

If you set your phone on your frequency and leave your phone next to someone who doesnt believe you.... let them hear it for a while and then you can say.."welcome to my world"

Jim.

Somehow then there must be a way to measure the tinnitus sound waves and then play back a sound with opposite waves to cancel the sound out.

Thats how noise cancelling headphones work. But they dont work for Tinitus because the 'noise' is in your head, not an actual noise from the outside world.

I have it. It's a side effect of the meds I take. It's the most annoying thing ever and ruins my sleep.

I have so many things to cope with medically; sometimes I just want to cry. People that are fully fit and healthy don't know how lucky they are.

interesting though .. you go to audiology, you come back with hearing is ok as you can hear above an below this range. Kind of explains the stupid blips. mine was eventually 12,000.

It's probably near 10k actually.

''Tis fascinating though. I never thought to work out my frequency. Just played it to my wifey so she could hear what I hear. She didn't look impressed.

Welcome to our world

I found the above episode of the Digital Human interesting.

I haven't found a way of cancelling my tinnitus (it's different in each ear and goes through a range of sounds). I manage it by having noise around me.

I've had tinnitus for a good few years. I think it's relating to spending far too many nights dancing on top of ot next to massive speakers in various clubs. Occupational hazard so to speak.

It's ok most of the day, nighttimes can vary from mildly annoying to horrifically loud. I have no advice Rachael other than if it's new to see a GP as it can be a sign of infection or perforated ear drum?

No cure but some of us can time out from it. It's always there if some tool reminds you of it though.

my latest thing is to you tube a meditation thing - something like running river water - rain storm - that kind of thing - sometimes it helps me to switch off - when im over tired its a lot louder and most of the time it drives me mad - struggle in a room full of people as the noise is hard to block out enough to catch what folk are saying -

Strangely, my hearing aids, bringing in external sounds, seem to have made the internal sounds louder too. I'm not adjusting well to them. My Meniere's is back with a vengeance whenever I have to use them seriously.

Interesting thread, I play in some very loud and heavy bands, I can't even hear the alarm going off for work the morning after a rehearsal and need to almost lip read after a gig! I have permanent ringing in my ears but it doesn't really bother me? I'm now asking myself, "Have I deafened myself to the point where I can't hear the tinnitus enough to bother me?? Seriously!

Dude \m/

There is a tinnitus talk forum on the web which covers all aspects of the condition. It may be worth anyone who has the dreadded whistling, thumping buzzing in their head having a look at it.

Cheers Jim

I've had tinnitus severely from my teens. I can always hear it. I can kind of tune it out most of the time.

The worst time is night. I have to have 3 ticking clocks in my bedroom or else I end up listening to the cacophony in my ears.

Central

We've had a lot of threads before on tinnitus, so worth a search.

Relaxation and minimising stress id ideal. Stay hydrated.

Watch for whether any specific types of sounds inflame it and generally lessen the amount of sound loud that you get.

Some medicine can cause it as a side effect too.
