Hip replacement.

Has anyone else had this done.I had my pre op appointment yesterday.Told me its severe and very rare at my age.Squeaky bum time for me

Not had it done but talked about having it done. Decided to stay as I am while still mobile and not in too much pain.

I used to work with someone much younger than you that had a double hip replacement due to severe arthritis, he had a new lease of life once he'd fully recovered the operations.

It's a routine operation that alters peoples lives for the better. Well worth having done. Generally people are in for approx 3 days. Physio the day after the operation because it's important to keep moving. Accept all the pain relief you are offered because the less pain you have the more you are able to move which is good.

Be thankful it's not a knee replacement because the pain after those is worse.

If you had a pre op then they did that early, they are usually done much closer in time to the actual operation so that the swabs taken (to check for mrsa etc) are more relevant so i would imagine you might have another pre op.

My ex had a Birmingham hip resurfacing at 30 which is fairly similar procedure but takes less off the top of the femur. This is supposed to allow an additional revision (replacement) to a normal full hip replacement so in theory is better for younger people as otherwise you can run out of hip replacement lifetime. It was a fairly major op but the recovery was quicker than we had expected and results were fantastic.

Seems you were right.Due to my blood pressure being unstable Ive got another pre op in Sept.So hopefully the meds will have fixed the problem by then.
