A world of my own

It's not a nice phrase but it is how I see myself. No point sugar coating it when my mirror and most of society doesn't.

I'm not fat and proud or happy with my weight so not likely the idea the OP had when starting this post!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Fat and not working on it.

I prefer the use of fat than euphemisms that mean the same to person trying to make it sound like they are not saying fat.

Curvy used with a sneer is as derogatory as using fat when the aim is to belittle someone.

Using girl for women annoys me more.

True, but I'm still fat. Technically obese.

It's funny though; I read so much on here about men fucking obese women, not because they could possibly be attracted to them, but for other reasons like being desperate. We do have people outside of Fab who will sit in a pub, walk down the street with and stick around for years.

I'll call myself fat, and smile about it

BBW suggests all fat women are beautiful. Nonsense.

"You know what does really piss me off.

People telling me I'm not fat. I'm still 4 stones over my top weight range. That's 4 stones of fat I shouldn't be dragging around. "

Then things up front are probably a stone each, shall we call it an even two?

"I don't mind the term fat. If someone belts it at me with the word 'bitch' at the end, then I get angry... "

I'm not necessarily saying the term fat is offensive but simply that there are far more sensitive terms which could be used instead.

I'm 3stone over according to Bmi

Equally, I am marginally overweight. "

I don't think I'm going by bmi. I used a chart and the weight I mostly was before I got so fat. I knew what looked and felt the best. I have been under 8 stone; which was not healthy, and 11 stone, which is just under the top weight for my age and height. I'll be happy getting back down to 11.

Equally with men, I think photos give a much better idea of body type. So many people use different descriptions and they're not all the same x

You are too hard on youyrself. Yes you are overweight but you are not a BBW or SSBBW.

If he'd have said curvy/larger/bbw etc he'd have been told to call it as it is and say fat yet he has said fat and now that's wrong.

I do something called EFT = Emotional Freedom Technique. It's easy to do ands learn. It makes weight loss a doddle.

If anybody wants to lose weight I will help them for free.

There is no catch. I am not looking to meet you. Any help would be done via the Internet using skype. That means it doesn't matter where in the world you live I can still help you. You don't need to put your web cam on as we do the EFT. We just need to be able to chat to each other.

I'm surprised how positive the response is to the term fat, I'm sat here trying to learn about women whilst also stating that I believe there are less offensive terms which could have been used.

I feel like Mel Gibson in what women want.

The word fat isn't the problem, it's what it's combined with..... Often bitch/slag/cow/slob etc.

Fat is just a descriptive word and when used in that manner there is no issue. Use it to try and hurt me or run me down then we have a problem.

Agreed. A descriptive word filled with negative connotations such as bitch/slob/slag. So why would you use a word that is so commonly linked with those words to describe someone you've never met?

Also, to the Skype transmitted infections... I hold my hands up to you.

I was going to link viruses with diarrhoea, resulting in weight loss but I thought I'd hold off seen as we're approaching dinner time.

I accept that, and I accept that it was accepted by many. It's wonderful that people are comfortable enough in themselves to be proud of whether they're fat, think or enjoy reverse donkeys punched. The most important thing is to be comfortable with who you are, in reality no one truly is. But equally, I didn't come across women offended by the term. Just men. Which within itself quite refreshing.

I don't mean to offend, but in reality your body is what most women aspire to have.

It kind of reiterated the overuse of curvy because you're between slim and athletic.

Which within itself makes me a complete hypocrite because I earlier said describe yourself with whatever you're comfortable describing yourself with... Sorry everyone.

Most people's tum has folds when sat down unless you really are slim or athletic.

It's the norm.

Most people will have something they're not 100% happy with about themselves.

If you find someone who likes you regardless - happy days!

If not - move on

Don't sit around wondering why.

Curvy can describe a size 6 or 26. It is merely an indicator that the waist is small in comparison to boobs and hips.. It is not a descriptor for fat. Fat is flesh in excess, sometimes flabby like a mummy tummy, sometimes not like a beer belly.

I understand that individuality is the answer to this question, but I stand by the perception of the word fat isn't appropriate if he's actively trying to get somewhere. Too many negative connotations! At the risk of hurting someone I feel an ounce of sensitivity would be beneficial.

No. The BMI chart is a guide to health professional as to whether their patient is under/overweight. It is not perfect but is advocated by the NHS and WHO.

It's correct in most cases unless you work out or have high/low metabolic rates.

My friend worked out and was classed as obese. Ridiculous.

It should be used as a guide but body fat percentage should be the one used in reality.

BMI is flawed in that respect.

Not by me it isn't.

I intensely dislike the term BBW. I am big, I am a woman but that doesn't mean I am beautiful. Some may think I am, others probably don't.

I am fat.

If I get offended by someone calling me fat then I should probably do something about it.

In all honesty, no one actually thought you meant it offensively. You just should have just tried to be a little more tactful as it may have offended someone.

Then we (mainly me) got into a debate about the most appropriate term when it doesn't really exist. Well, it got me through work at least.

Indeed. Good enough for me to impulsively make a joke about the crumpets without realising I sounded rather twatty."

You know, I went through a phase of buying crumpets when I took those pics but I haven't had them in ages could just have a crumpet now! Or some crumpet loaf from Greenhalghs

Most appropriate term is whatever the lady wants to be called. I'm not going to walk up to a girl and say wow your fat and sexy

But saying what I did here was clear curvy or BBW not so clear

"Hands up here!

I'm fat, not proud but working on it

I love that this thread is turning very pro confidence, but I'm really struggling who to commend? Someone help?!

I love curvy women, which is how I'd say it. Can someone answer whether fat is a preferred term because this is causing me to be unproductive in work...

Some hate the term fat and others don't mind it. I personally think the term curvy is overused on here but that's just my opinion.

I had this very issue. I was talking to a lady who put curvy as her description but she was a small size 10

From that moment on I have either been fat or 'ample' - and I hate that word "

I really hate the word ample.

Anyway fat chick here

"It's not a nice phrase but it is how I see myself. No point sugar coating it when my mirror and most of society doesn't.

I'm not fat and proud or happy with my weight so not likely the idea the OP had when starting this post!"

Your mirror maybe says fat to you, but judging from what I can see in your photos.......my eyes say bloody gorgeous and sexy.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder Xxx

I love this post! This is a classic case of don't judge a book by its cover. At the beginning there were the scornful people saying this won't end well, not very tactful blah blah.....then....they very people who were apparently supposed to be offended, jumped straight in with a 'Yes I'm fat so what of it, I am still sexy and can rock your socks off'. Not quite worded like that but hey, I'm on a roll lol

It's great that you ladies haven't taken exception to our Fab friends comment and rather embraced it showing everyone how fantastic you all are.

I think every one of you are sexy as hell Xx

A former forumite, Bussy, told me about Greenhalghs crumpet loaf (it really isn't available anywhere else) and suggested eggy bread. It is the ultimate comfort food.

How can we continue discussing the politically correct way of saying overweight, which I disagree with as its a spectrum and overweight doesn't factor shape amidst numerous other thing when we discovered crumpet bread. This is life changing. When people ask what I had for breakfast, my answer will be crumpet bread.

Imagine how many mind I will blow.

Luckily we're in a very sexually liberated forum so I think people will just be jealous of the pastry chef.
