So i get a message from a lovely lady from out of the blue, we spend a good while chatting and swap pics as you do. She knows i'm a gardener and asks me for advice - what looks good in the garden, smells nice and is easy to grow, that kind of thing.

Aside from recommending myself (i look ok, sometimes smell nice and i'm definitely easy to grow) i gave it a go and came up with quite an exhaustive list. I didn't mind, after all advice is always free.

I never hear from her again and it's left me feeling a tad used.

I think that's a bit mean, i'm just not like that. I did know a gardener who wrote the word 'twat' in salt in an ex clients immaculate lawn follwing a nasty fall out.

First earlies - late March.

Second earlies - mid April.

Maincrop - late April.

Get your first earlies off to a good start by chitting them in February in a dark, frost free place. Stand rose end up (the end with the most eyes) in an egg tray. They'll be ready to plant out when the shoots are 1-2 inches long.
