How can I get my stupid blind cat to stop sleeping in his litter tray?

I have to shut him in the hall when I am out now as he jumps up on things, gets stuck and then poops there.

He has a bed in the hall next to his food bowls and I keep putting him on there but he just returns to sit and sleep in his litter tray.... Even if it's been used.

Tries putting something that smells of me on there and some catnip but he seems to be the only cat in the world immune to the stuff!

My cats sleep anywhere but in the dreaded comfy soft cats beds!

You could try getting a large 100 watt bulb he might be a light sleeper

Poss try putting something like a hot water bottle under a cover on the cat bed he might lie on top of it ( not boiling hot water obviously )

he is blind so perhaps its just a place he feels safe in.

Blind doesn't stop cats & dogs knowing where they are. I'd check it out to be on the safe side

It could be down to the placement of his food bowls, water, bed and litter tray.

Their natural instinct is to have all of these things separate. They don't like food and water next to each other etc. You could try moving things around a little. Feliway pheremone plug in can help settle them down a little too. I would suggest a vet check just to rule out any underlying health conditions.

When mine was on her last legs that's where she would sleep and she'd pee on my duvet. I gave her the duvet to use a her litter tray and left her litter tray for her to sleep in. It seemed to work and she was happy.

oh he knows where things are alright....he can sense an open door and access to the cat flap in seconds and make a dash for it haha

and every time i put him on the bed he makes a bee line back to the litter tray. i just want him to be comfy and not sleep in piss lol

will take him to the vets next week

Put the wrong smells in his tray, that is only just about bearable for him for short periods. Experiment with scents and strengths.

Making an uneven surface could work, so it's not like a bad or that comfortable.

Give rewards for use of his bed or other areas for sleeping.

move the bed to where the tray is. Move the tray somewhere else?

My cat, who's not blind, used to like sitting in his tray. When I asked the vet this, she suggested it's because they feel 'safe'.

Cats have ways of telling us when something is wrong, so best to take him to the vets to be checked out.

It's not the positioning of the tray it's most likely because it smells the most of him. Gross idea to us but it's the way cats work
