Seriously, the 850 changed the game for Volvo. Not everyone has noticed. Old ones have a certain retro coolness about them....

You can switch them off if u want. Most users tend not to. Its for safety reasons. Believe me, in full sun especially in front of you its easier to spot a car with lights on. Driving a lot in europe and im actually driving every single car with lights on all day.

Wouldnt hurt that much if u were driving volvo :D few years ago yaris rear ended me. Yaris was write off. I only replaced and painted bumper in my s40

Was hit by one whilst on the back of a motorbike and it ripped my leg off 24 years ago. So you coyld say my leg was wrote off too lol

Unlikely I would have had my leg ripped off if hit by any other car. The fact it was a Volvo was why I sustained such a horrific injury

I had a volvo s60 which i absolutely loved, apart from the bulbs blowing every couple of months and the turning circle. The drive and comfort levels were exceptional and it drove very well too . I now drive a mercedes but have been thinking of going back to Volvo

Spot on. I think it was described in some reviews when it was launched as a " baby bentley" and having been in both, I can see what they meant. I say they, I believe it was Jeremy Clarkson who first said that . Love the heated seats ..

its coming from the fact that mainly it was old people buying volvo's.... and then instead of selling them passing them down to their kids....

doesn't really matter if people think they're an old mans car it's down to if you like it or not. Volvo are responsible for saving the lives of more motorists than any other car company though, by developing the 3point seatbelt and instantly giving to the world for free rather than patenting it.

Totally agree. I love my volvo and wouldnt swap it for anything really. Since im driving a lot i need comfortable, safe and reliable car and thats what im getting from volvo

V50/V60 R design is a hoot to drive for a 1.6 oil burner (2L D is even better).

No longer. Volvo are a very desirable product these days, the thinking man's BMW and Audi, possibly even Merc. Great range of cars, great image. I'd happily drive an xc40 XC60 XC90 s60 or v60. Then there's the Polestar versions... Oh yes please!

I've got a Volvo 240, the Torslanda estate version, no electrics, very big.

We've been all around the country in it, slept in the back and have used it as our wedding car and brought our son home from hospital in it when he was born.

It's surprisingly nippy, I used to like challenging people at traffic lights, but I've grown out of that.

Mercedes used the 2 point lap belt later the 2 point diagonal belt the one that became the standard was the 3 point belt developed by Volvo as it proved to be the safest and given freely for anyone to use.

Fast ... smooth... Comfortable. ..

Economical.... And cheaper than a similar Volvo...

Volvo and Mercedes, BMW, Audi etc don't really inspire jealousy in my experience. Just ordinary cars that you see all over - apart from the exotics like the Audi R8 and the Mercedes Mclaren SLR.

Jealousy isn't actually nice to experience. I remember driving through a British Town in a certain Italian supercar when I was young and thought it was cool to be an attention seeker and I had people shout abuse at me and swear. I could never leave the damn thing anywhere. Now I could never be bothered with all that. Diesel all the way baby.

No. They are just a bit different is all. I've run a bunch of German cars from all the brands and despite the fanboy bs there's not that much difference because the reality is we don't drive on a track.

Put it another way. There's more difference in your experience in going from a C class to an E class to an S class than there is between say an E class and a 5 series and an A6.

I think it just depends on what you like.

Came out of coffee shop today and the new V90 was parked in the lot near me, had a look in, top of the line, Jesus it's stunning inside, outside 2 but serious level of comfort inside, wouldn't mine one at all, hopefully they do a cross country version

Not sure how they're getting on but Volvo had a dream/target that no one would be killed in a traffic accident while driving a new Volvo built and available in 2020 I think.

The lights on during the day is Swedish law and on a lot of the older cars (not all) you could disable that feature if you wanted to for UK driving.

Don't do it in Sweden though or it's a fine

I've been a petrolhead my whole life but I've never owned a Volvo. However I'm a lot more interested in safety than I was when I was younger. I feel that if you're not interested in showing off and want to keep your family safe, then they most likely would be a fine car. I would certainly rather be sitting in a volvo in a serious crash than in many, many other cars.

They're certainly aiming for a younger trendier market now and the xc40 has won loads of awards against the normal companies like for like offering from BMW and Audi etc.

I guess it's whether you like to follow the crowd or be different.

I'll look at them when my cars contract is up in the new year to see what they are offering.

that should be law everywhere, there fools driving round here at 5pm with no lights on, city heads drive out into the country and shite themselves on country non lit roads when they realize they forgot to turn their lights on 20 miles back up lit roads,

does he mean all new age ones, because the last 1 I had was a 2011 and it was bullet proof, cousin gets a X90 every 2 years and bar saying mad on juice never an issue,

I'd put one( pre 11 that is) up against anything and be confident it would hold it's own.

Had mine 3 years, serviced at all recommended intervals and has only needed brakes and tyres.
