Best Practical Effects

What practical effects in one of your favourite movies left you amazed and wondered how it was done?

My favourite has to be the werewolf transformation in An American Werewolf In London. It's by far one of the best practical effects ever created.

What's your favourite?

One of the best films where the special effects has more than stood the test of time is Terminator 2. Still looks more real then most films out today

Yes indeed. John Landis did a great job with this movie especially in this scene with how it was done in harsh bright lights and no cutaways. It's just amazing.

Sorry, you said practical effects. Terminator 2 is more special effects.

In that case, I would say The Thing. Awesome film and even better practical effects

I agree, the Thing was in fact ahead of it's time when you consider when it was made, it still is a great film in it's own right..

I agree with you on The Thing. It does have some really great practical effects when it comes to the alien creatures in the film. Rob Bottin did a brilliant job bringing these horrific creations to life.

What is also a good effect in American Werewolf in London is the make up of David's undead friend Jack which is impressive and gruesome at the same time especially that little wiggling piece of flesh on his neck.

The puppet used for Jack's 3rd appearance when they meet in the porno theatre is a pretty good effect as well seeing that half of his face is gone revealing his skull.
