How often do you think about your past. Is it something you do frequently or rarely.

I never really think about mine and if i do its like im thinking about another person. I dont associate the past with me. Dont know if anyone else thinks like that

I get that. I'm not much of one for reminiscing.

I think about the past somewhat often. I like to remember how things were, how we've improved as a society or gotten worse. I like to think about how my reactions to things have changed or remained the same - how my thinking process has progressed or not.

I think it's an important part of my self improvement, but at the same time I don't dwell on it. I don't see much point in aimless dwelling.

I tend to reminisce quite regularly however,I have no regrets.I like to think that I learn from what are mistakes and feel that there is never a problem only a solution.

So when you think about the past do you know its your past and can you connect it to yourself

I'm trying hard to put mine in the past and forget about it. But a few things have happened and I've had to recall things I'd much rather forget completely.

I'm learning from my mistakes but don't like to look back too much x

I will be haunted by my past until my dieing day, even now a smell, a flavour, an innocent noise above a certain decibel can trigger the most awful memories, sometimes I'm ok after a couple of hours, but as recently shown by my forum absence, I'll not be right for months.

I try not to think about my past, especially my teen and preteen years, unless I'm in a really good place, unfortunately that means I've had to block good memories too

Is it possible to not consider the past in every decision that you make? Surely it's the only reference we have with which to refer.

"So when you think about the past do you know its your past and can you connect it to yourself"

My last reply is now in the past as I see it.As to connect with it I don't think about things that deeply as some might do.I've never done anything to give me nightmares so all is sweet.

They do recon that the reason that people's "life flashes before their eyes" in moments of near death, is our brain's attempt to find a memory to suggest a solution to the situation.

I reflect on the good bits of my past and leave the not so nice bits forgotten.

Better to focus on the future. Onwards and upwards.

I like to remember and look back on the good things in my past, but there's also a lot from my early years that I would love to erase from my memory forever too.

I have had a very interesting past and was only thinking about it yesterday as I was chatting to someone about all the mad stuff I've done...

I always look back on it fondly

I'm fascinated by history and archaeology and the sense of self and security or otherwise our personal history gives us. I don't think its unusual to view one's past as having happened to a different person quite simply because we were. We learn from our past and each event will change us imperceptibly making us different people.

I have very strong memories of many events in my past and I know they happened to me but I don't feel especially connected to them as I am now.

I spent way too much time tho king about things that happened. It's not good for you and sometimes you don't realise you're doing it.

I think about the past when ever something triggers a memory or I want to remember something. I see my past as the path I trod to create who I am today. I only have a couple of things in my life that I regret doing, but I learned from them and I'm wiser for the experience. However I wouldn't choose to experience them again

I'll add that I think examining my story helped me to unravel some of the mystery of who I am.

I did that too, throughout my early 30's. it really helped me to critically reflect on and learn from my experiences

Looking at the past can often be painful! It may shape you as a person!

But has no reflection of who you are now!

I look back daily and it makes me smile

More so these days as my kids grow up but not with nostalgia just 'oh yeah I remember that!'

I am a very reflective person. I think about past experiences a lot, I'm a big believer that experience makes us who we are. I also look back sometimes in a whistful way thinking about a sliding doors scenario and what if....

I don't regret decisions I've made and paths I've walked down- I just ponder sometimes what if....
