A good Dj doesn't need 1210's, a good Dj doesn't even need vinyl. A good Dj will read the crowd and play what keeps the dance floor busy. I use serato and virtual Dj (progression through the years before any "hardcore" Dj's comment, I have been in the trade for 26 years on the bar/club circuit ) I started out with vinyl but having knackered the suspension on a car because you are lugging half a ton of records about makes going digital a no brainier. I do find that using VDJ can make you a lazy Dj as it's too easy to put a mix together. and it also depends on what laptop/computer you are running on as to how smooth the program runs. All in all VDJ is a good place to start, there are other programs out there and they are quite similar, I think it boils down to personal preference. I will be using my controller and VDJ tonight at my residency.

I could waffle on all day about this subject.

Hope this helps

I use it when I'm a compare. It's not djing in my eyes. Laptops, vdj etc are plain cheating. If you want it for anything else, it can be good.

What do you want to know?

I've used PCDJ before but I prefer the software produced by Numark (called Numark Cue) - particularly as it is the most compatible with my hardware (which incidentally is also Numark)

I'm with you on this.

Everything else in life we're encouraged to move with advances in technology, but the 'trendy' types want to be part of the 'cool' brigade by sticking with a massively outdated format.

I find using MP3's and a laptop (with controllers) is far more efficient.

Not only can I find a tune I want virtually instantly - useful when dealing with requests, but setup and break down times are much quicker and as you say, I'm carting about a lot less weight.

Funny dude.

Actually, my junk never touched my mixer. It was posed above and in front.

That said, I never lend or hire my DJ Equipment out anyway

To be fair, it's not the setting up of two turntables and a mixer that takes the time, it's the speakers and lights that take the most time (or at least cabling everything)...

all well and good but the tons of dub plates and test pressing i have just won't play on a laptop lol ... so it's more of a convenience thing .... i find using virtual kit just isn't even remotely challenging enough, but that's just my take on things ... you go do whatever you enjoy doing, it ain't a contest ... it's creativity is the key and i'm happy i've had a hand in creating a lot of the music that vdj's play

Because they want you to pay for the software. What you have is what's known as a demo version. For full functionality you have to part with money

"So no free music lol"

try a different onboard software brand ... there's quite a lot to choose from ... most are pants though with loads of gimmicky bits .... all you need is a way of grabbing files from your library and a way of altering the rpm/bpm and crossfading ... that's all virtual DJing is
