Best bass line ever

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

On the back of the "best guitar riff" lets talk bass lines

When we talk bass guitar the usual suspects pop up.

Flea,rick james,les claypool,cliff burton,john entwistle to name a few

But what song has a really killer bass line running through it

RHCP-black eyed blonde(any early chilis song tbh)

Chic-la freak

Any early 70s funk disco sing usually has a funky slap bass line in it......any more bass lines?

God yes - it's the base line in 'What is and What Should Never Be' which makes it the sexiest track ever written IMO, it drives me nuts - it's no wonder I went off the rails so young listening to Led Zep II !!

Correct, done with a modified acoustic guitar and processed to drop it by a few dB to achieve the bass sound.

Which in itself is rather clever and intriguing.

All covers have been done using a bass guitar, it is far simpler.

"On the back of the "best guitar riff" lets talk bass lines

When we talk bass guitar the usual suspects pop up.

Flea,rick james,les claypool,cliff burton,john entwistle to name a few

But what song has a really killer bass line running through it

RHCP-black eyed blonde(any early chilis song tbh)

Chic-la freak

Any early 70s funk disco sing usually has a funky slap bass line in it......any more bass lines?

"

I really like John Taylor's Bass part on Duran-Duran's RIO. Well worth a listen.

Can't believe that nobody has said Public Image by PIL Jah Wobble may be a bit of a dick but it's a perfect example of how a simple but strong baseline can make a good song great

West Midlands

Not their most well known track, but when I saw this on Whistle Test in about 1986 it hit me like a hammer!

New Order "Sunrise"

Like a lot of Hooky's stuff, it drives the song and is the main melody, Bernard just plays simple chords over it. Worth a listen

Although played on a synth, the bass line on Biffy Clyro's Born on a horse is good.

The bass play for The John Butler Trio is also pretty good.
