Hiding in the shadows

Hey Fab folks, just wondering how you all deal with the issue of someone on here knowing you in real life?

Was chatting to a guy on here, and then added me as a friend - turns out we know each other, it's been fine, we met for coffee to 'clear the air' & we've had a few laughs (this was before I changed my profile pic so had been totally anonymous)

I've now changed my pic to one of my partner & I.

Several people I realise I now know have viewed it & his profile too - he has a similar photo of us both.

I knew putting face pics up this could happen, but I'm now unsure on how to react if/when I see these people.

Do I just ignore the fact, we have a mutual secret, make a light hearted joke.

I'm not interested in any of them, they don't meet my/our requirements.

How would guys deal with it?

How would you expect people who recognise you to react? That's probably a good starting point.

If it's that much of a concern why keep your face pics public?

if I realised I knew someone I would block them and move on, I wouldn't be putting my face pic up either

In my opinion you should think of it another way. You might have interest from people who recognise you and who you know. They are not your type - your choice and right to not engage with them - and feel rejected. How will they talk about you afterwards? Will that bother you or can you just live with it?

Maybe set face photos to friends only. Much easier and less awkward in cases like this one.

I think basic discretion is expected on here. If I see someone I know inwoukdnt approach them in real life or talk about it and would expect the same courtesy.

People don't always respect that though. Some people would happily shout across Tesco "oyyy missy, seen you on Fab! Lovely cunt!"

You just all belong to the sane club that has certain interests - it happens when u r transparent - I just have a coffee with them and we laugh about it ... best wishes

If i was bothered i wouldnt have a face picture up. I live in a small town but it seems like half have joined lately. I often get messages saying theyve seen me. A couple have come up to me discretly when ive been on my own

A friend of mine got approached during Pride parade with her young teen by someone she had met. That's so wrong in my opinion. Very indiscreet.

Thanks for all your replies, just got in from work & read them.

I guess the answer really is, I don't care if people see my photo & recognise me, I wouldn't have put it up if I did. I certainly won't be the one to make the first comment.. Apart from the one friend I mentioned I don't actually know any of the others, just seen them around but never spoke so unless they now acknowledge me I won't either.
