We are halfway through The Return.

No spoilers please out of respect for those who are watching Series 1 and/or 2 or aren't quite in top of The Return episodes. Cryptic Lynchian referencing allowed...

It's not so much I was expecting a natural continuation of the story as, of course, 25 years have passed and things move on. Let's be honest even in S2 the story jumped the shark a bit and went off the rails for a while after the killer was finally revealed mid-series.

It's just I can't properly get into the characters or engage in the story in this new incarnation. And I'm trying SO hard to like it. I WANT to really like it.

The Dougie character is now beginning to wear on me. Without offering spoilers it's all a bit frustrating (which I know is what Lynch is often about).

Even 'evil Dale' is not engaging enough. And the new characters aren't making the impact that the original ones did and those that have been brought back from the original series I'm struggling to see what they're adding in their fleeting appearances other than being shoe-horned in as a little bit of continuity to the original series....

Annnnyway.. hopefully it'll all pull together over the next few weeks and bring some adequate closure to all those unanswered questions over the last 25 years ...

I can see what you're saying. I'm just so engrossed in the whole thing that I'm as happy as Larry!! As you say, let's see how we feel at the end.

It feels like we're getting sooooo close and then not quite. It's frustrating me too but I am letting it roll over me and enjoying it immensely despite (or maybe because of) that. And all those plot threads that seemed to be going nowhere have started to have their relevance tied into other plot devices. Which is nice.

It just feels like the whole thing was a disparate jumble of ideas (which I loved) and, as we progress, is all coming together to be quite coherent (which I love even more)

I knew it would be different, of course it would things have moved on in 25 years. But it's not how I expected. Some moments of utter brilliance. Some moments of 'meh'. As I said above I'm not sure I'm enjoying it as much as I so desperately wanted to. And I do miss the 'old' Coop. This whole Dougie thing is a slow burn isn't it? I was kinda hoping he'd have snapped out of it by now.

BUT! I've only watched each episode once. I'm pretty damn sure I'll get the box set or watch them all again and I'm sure on a second watch I'll pick up little things I missed first time around and get more out of the whole experience.

David Lynch has said this is a one-off project (although he's said similar before) so I hope we're not left with *too* many loose ends at the end of episode 18!

It's funny - so many of the (terrible!) things from season 2 I always tended to put down to Lynch moving away from the series, but there's plenty in the new season to remind me he sometimes just has a terrible sense of humour

I like it when they sometimes throw you by having scenes after the roadhouse... but yeah, completely agree.

I love that they've managed to really only have about one episode that ended on a bit of a cliffhanger but it's never stopped me wanting the next episode!

It has been glorious.

I think many of the threads are now coming together. I'm expecting many things to be left unanswered though, or at least addressed in Mark Frost's Twin Peaks Dossier book, as Lynch has said that this WILL be the end of Twin Peaks on Television.

This has been the best bit of TV, With the exception of the Prisoner re-boot: Wentworth, and Line of Duty to air for years.
