Hotel Chocolat v Thorntons

What is your preference?

I used to think that Thorntons was just overpriced, but as a posh chocolate I used to rely on it.

Then I discovered Hotel Chocolat. Their stuff is magical!

Sheffield

Most of the actual chocolate in this country is produced by a company in Banbury called Barry Calibaut - they ship tankers of it to Thorntons and M&S, etc., etc., Don't know about Hotel Chocolat - but all the rest is the same whether you buy Thorntons or Tesc Basic

What a sad git I am to know that !!!

I used to work at Thorntons. It was good fun having Easter egg fights when we were on the night shift

True, but then they add their own individual ingredients to the vats to make it unique

Hotel Chocolat wins every time over Thornton's but I'm lucky enough to have a number of independent chocolatiers in my city. My favourite is Chocolate Utopia.

I had a slab of chocolate in a fun festive shape as a Secret Santa gift last year.

The chocolate was very bland tasting and a bit of a disappointment to be honest.

I've only had the Thorntons soft centre selection box and they were delish, so on that limited sample I have to say Thorntons win handsomely.

Hotel chocolat all the way.

On a different note, I got a Diary Box selection for my birthday... all tasted the same!

Hotel Chocolat used to be much better before it expanded and Thorntons just doesn't do it for

One trip to Belgium made me see chocolate in a whole new light.

Letchworth

Thorntons is very cheap chocolate, not enough coco solids in it. Has slowly gone downhill and is still over priced...

Hotel Chocolate is expensive but much better quality. You can normally tell as it's hard to eat too much of their product in one go because it's so rich and you get your chocolate fix so quickly lol

I don't like Thorntons chocolates, they are too sickly. I'll have to get some Hotel Chocolat and let you know what I think.

Hotel Chocolat is far superior - the taste and quality is well worth the price. Thorntons chocolate is too sweet and sickly in comparison

That's like comparing an Aston Martin with a Fiat Panda.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Thorntons, like Cadbury's have changed their recipes and their chocolates are far too sweet and bland.

If its a choice between the OP two then always Hotel Chocolat. If I can pick others, then M&S do excellent chocolate.

Only because you want to ride naked through the town on a white steed munching on some of chocolate's finest.

I love Hotel Chocolat. Especially any of their fruity chocs like blueberry or passionfruit. Thorntons is far too sweet and has that claggy, oily feel in your mouth - and to my taste, everything they do, no matter what it's supposed to be tastes pretty much the same.

Handy tip: if you can get to Huntingdon, there's a Hotel Chocolat factory shop there with 5% off all their normal stuff (or it might be 10%, can't remember), and seasonal stuff (like Easter eggs) is massively reduced.

Even sadder is that I know they do different grades of chocolate so it will depend on the quality and area from which it has been sourced
