Handwritten letters

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I received a letter in the post today, handwritten, from a good friend. Delightful! I try and write handwritten letters reasonably regularly as a way of keeping in touch with people, even if I see them frequently, as I find I communicate different info then I would via social media, text or email. I like taking ten minutes or so to put pen to paper and send via snail mail.

Is letter-writing becoming a lost art? Do you enjoy writing or receiving handwritten letters from people? Or do you think it's a waste of time?

I love writing letters. Gives me more time to think about what I'm actually saying. Even better to receive

I love the simple joy of a handwritten letter. It's definitely something that is becoming less thought about.

Even greetings cards come with computerised signatures these days.

Yay!! Yes, there's something lovely about taking your time over it and I find it makes me more mindful and appreciative of what's going on for me too. And the feeling that someone took the time to do the same, the intent on reaching out to me, is really heartwarming.

Ha ha!! Yes, you have to make peace with your perfectionism! I tend to doodle/draw any boo boos into a squiggly cartoon!

Oh how wonderful! I've long since lost contact with my childhood pen pals. Used to go on a family holiday abroad and come back with a clutch of new pen pals from local kids I made friends with over the vacation! Those were the days.

I start up my laptop, Load word and type out what I need, just so I can run my 'post it' note through my printer.

I couldn't tell you the last time I wrote a letter.

My mum was great at sending letters when I lived abroad complete with little drawings of the family pets saying hello!! My friends would gather round to hear the next instalment read aloud each week! Her letters are comedy gold. And unintentionally so!

I forgot what one looks like. But, I do send a post card every holiday location I go to. So I do keep some traditions going. And I like reviewing those too, it is much more personal.

I write to one person on a semi regular basis. They no longer live in this country. It's a lot easier to write in detail about what's going on in each others lives, than texting

Oh joy! That's exactly it, the kinda "care package" aspect where you pop things in the envelope and it's all a bit multimedia and like a dear diary monologue!

Seeing how difficult it can be for middle-aged single straight men like myself to have a conversation with a woman on here, how about we go old school? If you'd like a pen pal send me a message and I'll give you my address.
