Started a fitness regime yesterday and unsurprisingly I ache a bit today.

Question is do I rest up today (which I don't want to) or carry on another session, no pain no gain malarkey.

I don't want to end up unable to walk this afternoon

Rest or not... it won't make a difference. .

The best way I found to avoid DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) is with light cardio after your heavy session. If it's your first session, you'll probably be hurting for a week. I would still train though, and the science types suggest that it is fine to do so.

You could reduce the ache with pain killers, but personally I quite like it.

I've been walking like an old man when I first get up after walking six miles a day for the last few months-with a couple of rest days between-,I mentioned this to a friend that runs regular marathons and he cheerfully told me that's good, you need to feel like you've had the shit knocked out you lol.

I train 4 times a week and still ache a bit,but 2 of those are swimming which just knackers you out as opposed to aching

I've just recently returned to the gym after a break of over a year and take rest days.

It's good to let your muscles recover, too much too soon and you'll get an injury. You will probably ache all week but it will get easier as you do more x

It's absolutely fine to train today again but tbh u don't need to.

focus on nutrition for today and rehydration maybe do a strecthing session your body will love you for it later. No painkillers it's counterproductive and don't overdo your sessions a hr is plenty with 1min rest periods in between exercises get your partner to rub in some deep heat if it gets unbearable if you really have the urge to train do a focus session 1 muscle 1 session 8 to 10 exercises .

I'm a boxing coach and personal trainer 15 yrs experience inbox me anytime u like

I always stretch after a work out, its helps lots. And importantly always warm up before any weight exercises.

Train different body parts on different days and give at least 4 days for each part ot rest. Try and do push one day pull next time. So chest Monday back tuesday weds off shoulders thurs legs fri sat off arms abs anytning else you like sun. Do a bit of cardio after your workouts too. Main thinng is diet amd rest plays a big part. Hope this helps

Eat properly keep it up.

It's the start its going to be sore but it goes away.

Just keep the routine you planned out. Dont start taking ad hoc rest days or youre going to have given up by the end of the month.

If it's a little ache it's fine to train.... If it's doms, rest till they go. That's your body's way of saying its worked enough and needs to heal. As others have said, if it is doms nutrition and hydration followed by a proper night's sleep

Recovery is the most important part. Nutrition and sleep is the difference maker

If your that sore it'd be a half assed workout then leave it for another day

No pain no gain was a terrible fitness logo of the 80s and caused a ton of harm.

If your body is hurting, listen to it and let it rest. What you are feeling is DOMS and will happen everytime you first excercise a muscle, with a new routine.

Feel free to go again, just do a different muscle group.

Not listening to said pains is how so many new gym goers end up spending more time out of gym than in and soon quit from injury.

Dont be a crossfit lemming

Train

Eat

SLEEP. (This one is realy important)

I kinda love DOMS after learning a new exercise, sure drives me nuts as I hate forced rest days, but the pain is intresting and seeing how muscle reacts while repairs is pretty cool.

You discover muscles you didnt know you had lol

no pain no gain is a myth. just means you can tell you've worked your muscles, doesn't mean if they don't hurt you haven't done enough.

you only need 20 mins of exertion 5 times a week to remain healthy, or combine those amounts of exercise into any chunks of 100 mins a week in total. anything more than that and you will start to gain muscle and lose fat, but it doesn't have to hurt.

More likely to be magnesium - try some it's cheap as chips.

I stopped going to the gym pointless excersise besides I get way too horny but I am a trained in neutrition and work in spas

Cramping could be a sign of lack of salts and magnesium, make some super food smoothies

Advados

Beetroot

Pomegranates

Bananas

Spinach

You can also blend with protein shakes

Chicken fish eggs and pasta are all good for building muscles

My diet consists of cakes and dognuts crisps chocolate and haribows

Active recovery can be helpful, so light things like walking, yoga, swimming etc.

I quite like the DOMS feeling though, makes me feel like I did something worth doing!

Depends what you did, if you worked upper body, rest it and work lower today

Hiding in the shadows

I'm a PT, My personal advice, make sure you stretch & cool down properly after any workout, drink plenty of fluids, use rehydration/electrolyte solutions & have a protein supplement within 30mins of finishing.

Also a cup of Epsom salts in your bath & soak for 20mins will help lesson any cramps & stiffness.

Keep up the stretches, and alternate days & body areas you work on, never do same area for at least 48hrs

If you need any other advise feel free to message me x

"Any good tummy exercises? Mine just won't budge. "

the bottom half of my stomach is shrinking based on diet, as for the top half it still sticks out and more than the bottom half. weird. but i think you can only shift stomach using diet, maybe someone else will know better though.

It may stick out more because you have grown the muscle ubderneath the fat more at the top than the bottom.

Will depend what excercises youve been doing

You need to loose any fat before the ab muscle will show, don't do sit ups they push the muscle out!

Rest days are a must in my book .... or at least do cardio work on your rest days ... you should always give your body a rest after heavy work outs .

not been able to exercise for a month now, caused some damage to my neck and been in pain most of that time. which is why i started focusing completely on diet now and that seems to be working(but only the bottom half of my stomach).

it's def not my ribs, if i 'squish' the top psrt my ribs are deep in it and not sticking out. but it's that area.

the nurse at my doctors said being diabetic can mean you store fat round the middle but this isn't my middle either.

at least it's stopping my boobs from sagging, so bonus.

In that case yeah could simply be body taking fat in a slightly weird order.

It will all even out over time i wouldn't worry.....unless it's a giant Tumor of course then you should worry

How Do I Know if I Have It?

It's easy to perform a self-test for diastasis recti. Just lie on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Put one hand on your belly, with your fingers on your midline at your navel. Press your fingertips down gently, and bring your head (shoulders stay on the ground) up into a mini crunch-like position. Feel for the sides of your rectus abdominis muscles, and see if and how far they are separated. Separation is commonly discussed in terms of finger widths -- for instance, two or three (or more) fingers' separation.

might be that, it actually hurt to just touch the spot to look for it and there is a gap. will ask my doctor about it.

Exercises going OK, only did a little bit of gentle exercise yesterday as my lower back was aching

Back on it today and feeling good.

I appreciate the comments about exercising different parts on different days, giving the body time to repair muscle etc... But any exercises you can recommend for helping me loose my thunder thighs and baby belly???

Love jogging and cycling, but struggle to fit that in around work and kids, so all my exercises at the moment is squeezed in before work.

If you have short time but strong mental will power look up Tabata training.

However if you don't have the will power to do it properly stick with what you're doing or its fairly worthless.

Seen people make excelent progress on it but for me personally there is far too big a lazy/apathetic part of my brain to do it.
