"Started a fitness regime yesterday and unsurprisingly I ache a bit today. Question is do I rest up today (which I don't want to) or carry on another session, no pain no gain malarkey. I don't want to end up unable to walk this afternoon " Rest or not... it won't make a difference. . The best way I found to avoid DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) is with light cardio after your heavy session. If it's your first session, you'll probably be hurting for a week. I would still train though, and the science types suggest that it is fine to do so. You could reduce the ache with pain killers, but personally I quite like it. Cal

"It's absolutely fine to train today again but tbh u don't need to. focus on nutrition for today and rehydration maybe do a strecthing session your body will love you for it later. No painkillers it's counterproductive and don't overdo your sessions a hr is plenty with 1min rest periods in between exercises get your partner to rub in some deep heat if it gets unbearable if you really have the urge to train do a focus session 1 muscle 1 session 8 to 10 exercises . I'm a boxing coach and personal trainer 15 yrs experience inbox me anytime u like " Just tried to message you on a training problem

I don't want to end up unable to walk this afternoon " No pain no gain was a terrible fitness logo of the 80s and caused a ton of harm. If your body is hurting, listen to it and let it rest. What you are feeling is DOMS and will happen everytime you first excercise a muscle, with a new routine. Feel free to go again, just do a different muscle group. Not listening to said pains is how so many new gym goers end up spending more time out of gym than in and soon quit from injury. Dont be a crossfit lemming

"Active recovery can be helpful, so light things like walking, yoga, swimming etc. I quite like the DOMS feeling though, makes me feel like I did something worth doing!" Oh I also like the Dom feel, but think I might have to post that conversation in another thread

"Any good tummy exercises? Mine just won't budge. " the bottom half of my stomach is shrinking based on diet, as for the top half it still sticks out and more than the bottom half. weird. but i think you can only shift stomach using diet, maybe someone else will know better though.

It may stick out more because you have grown the muscle ubderneath the fat more at the top than the bottom. Will depend what excercises youve been doing

"Exercises going OK, only did a little bit of gentle exercise yesterday as my lower back was aching Back on it today and feeling good. I appreciate the comments about exercising different parts on different days, giving the body time to repair muscle etc... But any exercises you can recommend for helping me loose my thunder thighs and baby belly??? Love jogging and cycling, but struggle to fit that in around work and kids, so all my exercises at the moment is squeezed in before work. " If you have short time but strong mental will power look up Tabata training. However if you don't have the will power to do it properly stick with what you're doing or its fairly worthless. Seen people make excelent progress on it but for me personally there is far too big a lazy/apathetic part of my brain to do it.
