Showing people around

I was talking to a colleague of mine the other day. We were talking about my house and he said when you get visitors for the first time (of the vanilla nature) do you take them for a tour around your house? Odd I thought but he said it's the norm when he grew up in 1970s East London. So it got me thinking how many others around the nation see it as ettiqute to give friends a tour of your house on a first visit?

(I think my underground bunker would raise an eyebrow or two)

i have done with my current place but it is quite a big house so if staying over they know what's where.

I've just bought another place that I'll be completely renovating so will likely show what I've changed than anything else

Nope never do the tour these days. Did in the early days just after moving with long standing friends and family. Maybe if major refurbishment was done ....

I've been to people's houses where they do that but the only time we've done it is when we first moved here and visitors expressed an interest in the early 80s decor

I showed immediate family around when I first moved but that's it.

Most folks who do this are showing off and those who ask for you to give them a guided tour are just nosey buggers

I was kindly shown around the other day on a first visit to a house of a friend. So it is obviously a done thing to some. Not that I have a problem with that, I have a genuine interest in house room configuration and layout.

We live in a flat. Not much to show to be honest.. just show them where the bathroom and kitchen is if need be.

I've never felt the urge to show people around my house. When I was a kid I don't recall being shown around houses, but did many a garden tour.

It would be very boring showing people around my house, most rooms are empty or full of crap.
