In my experience a lot of men prefer unstable women because it gives them something to fix. It's much easier for a man to leave a strong woman (who they perceive needs nothing from them) for a weak unstable one. Again, speaking from experience.

(Some) women have built instability detectors but many will put up with it because they think they don't deserve better, expect men to behave that way, misplaced loyalty, because they will put up with a lot to be "in a relationship".
