Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Only in reverse...

You see an attractive picture but the profile and person are ugly.

No naming, no shaming. Are we all a teensy bit Dorian Grey on here?

.

But was Dorian Gray actually ugly inside? He was curious and he did things that weren't great (understatement) but he did attempt to absolve himself and felt guilt at his crimes.

Anyways, I've missed the point of the OP a bit I feel. Yes, there are some profiles like you describe.

As far as are we all a bit like him? Erm, I guess we're on here so giving in to our libertine ways, some more than others so yes to a certain degree. And the majority stumble across a Wottonesque figure at some point!

I think we all have times when our characters fall short of ideal. Some threads make me wonder how such views come from one whose pictures look so lovely.

That said, I concur with your assessment too.

The simpler comparison would be the pretty pictures that don't quite represent the reality.

Central

Unless we change our photos every day for one just taken, our real selves will be out of step with the beauty that others view. And most will pick photos that present them in a positive way.

Maybe there is some fab magic that helps to seal us closer to the Dorian Grey profile pics? And the single men in fact become single, despite having wife and kids waiting for him, with burnt dinner, whilst he's on a goose chase to get blown.

Are people who claim to be kinly who are actually very vanilla just fans of Fifty Shades of Dorian Grey?

i think most people are ugly inside. many just hide it well.

it's the natural state of humans to either have issues because they understand people or be oblivious. which is why a lot of people prefer innocence and prize that trait.

and i base my answer on the way i see the world as it is now.

nobody ever loves the ugly side of people. we either scorn it or treat as something to be killed, but hardly anyone chooses to kill it in a positive way, in fact others ugly often brings out your own ugly.

then there's downright evil. nobody knows how to handle that except by ignoring it. which brings me to think that we have ignored it for too long and have never focused on coping mechanisms for that.

i don't think everyone is evil, but everyone does have ugly thoughts if they are realistic about the world we live in, coz ugly perpetuates ugly.

It happens. When some threads are directly aimed at belittling of making others feel shit about themselves the personal notes thing comes in to use.
