Booking a holiday to Italy for next year for two weeks.

I've never been, obviously I really want to go to Rome

But I want to visit other places whilst I'm there, so thinking of doing a holiday where I travel Italy

What other places would you recommend I visit

Any suggestions would be greatful

Thanku

Venice is beautiful.

Lake Como is breathtaking.

The Dolomites national park.

Florence.

In fact hire a campervan and visit as many places as possible. Italy is my absolute favourite country.

Sorrento and surrounding area is beautiful, and close to historical stuff like Pompeii and Herculaneum if you're into that sort of stuff. Went there last summer and had a fabulous time.

Earlier in the year I did 3 days rome then 7 days in sorrento.

J.k place Roma is a gorgeous and very well located hotel in home. Staff are amazing too cant recomend that enough.

Sorrento is lovley for chilling our and I recomend the day trips on the small boats to Capri.

Sail to Capri have a few hours on the island then back to the boat to look around the island to see the grottos and to swim in the sea/sunbathe.

The big ferry to Capri is awful though if you take it take travel sickness tablets i think nearly everyone on board was sick at some point lol (And the first pharmacy on Capri rips you off for travel sickness tabs, take some from tesco)

Oh the train from napoli to Sorrento though is awful we had to throw one pick pocket off.

If you take it keep everything secure

We did a Mediterranean cruise a couple of years ago, we sailed out of Rome after having a few days there and then sailed into Venice after visiting numerous places in Italy, Greece, Turkey and Croatia, had the most amazing time and would definitely recommend it, easy way to explore different places and cultures and best of all relaxing in the pool after a hard day sightseeing was just perfect.

We Always use the following for planning our holidays

1.How long do we have

2. Places to visit. Do we go

A broad but shallow ?

B narrow but deep?

With

A you see lots but in no detail

B you see a few things but in great detail

3. Budget

If you use those parameters you will get your ideal holiday. It's all about he Ps. Proper planning equals proper performance.

One thing to consider is using AirBnB. Have had some excellent accommodation this way. Eating out at small restaurants is quite cheap and your in Italy, theres never really bad food. We go to where the locals eat and avoid the tourist traps.

Oh and the Lonely Planet guides are worth buying too.

Cheap flight to Pisa.

Then Lucca, Florence and Sienna.

Two days in Rome and fly home. All done very easily on a superb train network.

I love Florence & Tuscany......go to Sienna to. If you can then Portinfino is amazing, try the Hotel Splendido.....one of my favourites I stayed at.

Oh, the Amalfi Coast for definite. I tend to go every other year as my grandad is from Positano - it's absolutely beautiful there. I'd advise going in early Autumn though, it's far quieter than Summer and still lovely and warm. Yes to Sorrento, Capri and Pompeii, you'll love it so much.

Or if you want a more cityish break, Florence for definite, the culture is incredible and you can always try and be there for the first Palio de Siena.

Well, what did you decide finally?

Sorry for being interfering, but I believe I can say something useful: I'm Italian living in the north and I've been in the UK for quite a long time...years.

Most of the tips you got on here are all really good, so if you are still looking forward to make your plan the best..let me know if I can help, it'd be a pleasure

Went to Venice, Florence and Pisa last year. Love, love loved Venice, Florence too touristy for me but lovely just the same, Pisa only needed the day. Also spent a lovely day wandering around Mirano. Was told that Lucca is a must place to visit. Wherever you go, enjoy

I loved Verona, Piza is an afternoon visit place, as a general rule countryside north, hit the coast south, and impressive bits of cities everywhere.

Florence and Sienna are beautiful cities not far apart (leaning tower of Pisa is also close to both, but nothing else in that town)

Portofino in the north is the most stunning place I have ever been, but if you visit there, unless you are are multi millionaire, you will need to stay in Genoa.
