friend had it done on his ribs and chest looked painfull and raw for a long time but once it healed looks ace like he has been mauled by a big cat

If the place seems rough and your unsure about it then just find a more professional place instead, even if that means travelling and spending a little extra money for the work, when it comes to stuff like this your better to find somewhere your happy with which holds a certain standard, even getting a simple pearcing from a dodgy studio can be disastrous. Be safe and not sorry.
