Its ridiculous that someones job could be at risk by it, its only fun. I worked in an office as a teen with almost all women, & they revelled in trying to embarrass me. Asking me who had the better cleavage etc, you could have fried eggs on my cheeks! But it was only harmless fun at the end of the day.

Love a whistle.

You need a backbone where I work as we have some conversation that do tread a fine line and innuendo in everything. Luckily we have a good team so if someone oversteps the mark we back off.

HR would have a field day if they listened in.

Also under the considerate constructors scheme if a co worker is bending over and showing 'bum cleavage' you are supposed to alert him for fear of offending a passer by

Over 18 years ago I was heavily pregnant and allthe horrid things that it entailed, greasy hair, spots, swollen legs etc, I felt horrible.

In our local shopping centre walking with shopping bags and a rather unattractive maternity cat suit with mis matched shoes (only ones that would fit) this young dishy workman gave me a wolfwhistle.

It made my life, no not my day my life. Have never felt that I look crap ever since.

So wolfwhistle away boys

As a teenager I found it VERY intimidating, yes it was due to my insecurities, I always thought they were taking the piss out of me, but a 17yrs old shouldn't be made to feel scared walking down the street.

I feel that it should be a case of watching what you say/do around others, but loosing your job over it, I do think is OTT!

Thing is some women are "fragile".

I've lost count of the number of disciplinary/grievance hearings I've attended defending men accused of "intimidating and sexually harassing" female colleagues: doing nothing more than hanging a Page 3 calender etc.

Some women feel intimidated, some don't. Men are on notice of what can happen so should refrain from doing it: not worth losing your job over!

I was given a dressing down by the Director of Personnel where I work for telling a male subordinate he looked nice and touching his sleeve! I also tell my female staff they look nice and feel the material of their clothes, but because he was male I was told it was inappropriate and laid me open to a charge of sexual harassment: he was openly gay!

I certainly wouldnt call myself fragile and there is a hell of a lot of difference between guys hanging a page 3 calender up than a gang of work men oggling whistling and shouting things at you in the street

I like it from people who know me as a compliment because they think I look good. From strangers especially a group of men. -a big no.

If anyone who worked for me did it to anyone else then I would take them through the disciplinary process. It isn't immediately sackable though unless it is a clear breach of company policy. I would imagine the 2 people sacked are repeat offenders. If so they are clearly stupid on top of harassing.

I know all the reasons why people find it offensive and intimidating. Without going into detail it can be covered by understanding that the meaning of the communication is the response it gets. If the recipient dislikes it then the 'whistler' has been offensive and should be brought to task.

And do the women you "compliment" see it this way? And can you have banter with people that you don't know but just have the misfortune of being in the same area as you?

To me , unless it is directed at someone you know and that you know will take it as banter then it is totally wrong and unacceptable. To me the image of men on building sites wolf whistling women is something that is as out of place in today's society as the comedy of Jim Davidson or Bernard Manning. As for the suggestion that it is making us as a society soft, that is just laughable. So if your totally un-necessary actions make someone feel uncomfortable, they have the problem and need to toughen up? Seriously?

Back to the OP, I work in an office, I know that I can have a laugh with my colleagues but if I offended a member of the public that was in or ebven worse just passing my office I would be in serious shit. And that is how it should be, the working environment shouldn't dictate whether the behavious is acceptable.

ye the making us soft thing was a rubbish e.g, But the point Im making is that surely there are worse things happaning in are life's, that a harmless wolf whistle shouldnt be somthing we have a little cry about. If for instance you was in the tube station and there was just 1 women and sum lads' or even scarier 1 lad, and it was late and dark, and they/ he whistled at the women, then yeah totally out of order, cuase it would clearly scare her, however, if a women walks past a building site, ( major stereotyoping on this thread by the way) and sum lads whistle, and its middle of the day, then i just think women shouldnt get botherd by it, either laugh it off, or ignore it. there's no malice behind it, theres worse social outrages, e.g, litter, people playing music loudly on the bus, people spitting, swearing. I just think in the big picture its' a preety trivial thing to get so botherd about.

I notice this relates to the behavior of blokes in tbe majority although I'm sure guys have been wolf whistled by girls on nights out etc. I work as z musician and have had anything from picking my arse and whispering in my ear hmmm that's firm ( whe I'm singing) tits and arse flashed at me from tbe dancefloor - and most recenly a woman standing behind me shoving her tits in my back running her hands up and down my legs and then putting her hand in my pocket and grabbing my cock - and cos I've got a guitar on I can't stop playing - tbe security guys think it's fun - which if I wasn't working - it would be. I mentioned it later to the manager and he said ' any bloke would give his right arm to get touched up by a girl like thst' - I wonder if it was a girl singer and a bloke doing it would it be the same? Tbe words sex offenders register spring to mind and prob a stint inside for sexual assault?

So it's not one way traffic - for the record I didn't have a problem with any of it but it did make me think - comments?

personally i think all this sexual harrasment stuff can be so incredibly one sided at times

watching come dine with me the other day they had Philip Oliver on who is known for his fit bod and the other guest were baracking him to take his top off and show said fit bod even grabbing at him trying to pull his clothes off, now everyone was finding this incredibly funny but Philip was obviously uncomfortable, eventually lifting his top giving them a quick flash of his torso to get them to leave him alone the poor guy was blushing furiously. now i know this guy makes his fortune on his body posing for calenders and magazine shoots in his altogether but does this mean he should be objectified in such a way and lets be honest here if it had been a female being treated in such a way there would of been absolute uproar

now going back to the OP i do think it was harsh sacking them and i don't mind being whistled at, i do think that things can be beyond rediculous in the world of being PC but also i do think a bit more equality at times should be in order or basically i'm saying come on girls (not meaning any one person on here its a general in the big wide world) have some dignity men have feelings too ya know

Surely the common sense approach is if in doubt - don't do it! Wolf whistling a load of girls out on a hen night is probably less likely to cause offence than a woman walking alone down a quiet street when the chances are she's already on edge. I don't do it at all - if I think someone looks nice I'll tell them to their face but there's a time and a place - normally a social environment like a pub or club. Never in tbe street when they are alone - think thatd be a bit creepy.

I think its harmless and often cheers people up.. as long as its not with leud comments then I dont mind..

What makes me laugh is when women moan at men looking when they are wearing things designed to make men look..

Men are simple creatures... show a bit of leg, bum, or cleavage and they really do behave like kids in a sweet shop.. some may convertly look, some may wolfwhistle..others be a bit more forward.. but the fact is.. men look..

Or most.. there are always the odd exception.. I love to look and see which of the women Master will be looking at.. lol

I know his tastes.

actually im tired of trying not to piss people off here, i accept other peoples views, and cause mine are different they expect me to bow down and accept.....well my true opinion is, if you find a wolf whistle offensive, get a life, my dear god, if you get offended or intimadated by that, you gotta get a grip. its nothing, worse things happen 2 me everyday, a god damm wolf whistle, lmao, why whats so bad about it, is it like a warning some people give before rape. no it ent. has anybody been mentally tormented to the point were the life has been majorly effected. probably not. and if they have well then they were mentally unstable anyway. I clearly say theres a right and wrong time to do it. and obviously u gotta make a judgement call on who 2 do it 2. i wouldnt do it to sum granny, with a zimmer frame, walking down the street on her own, but i would do it 2 group of girl's walking past. why carnt you accept most people dont mind it.

Yes there do seem to be more who think it's harmless... on here... a site where wacking your cock out and tugging like a mad man won't raise an eyebrow... where splitting the pitta and rubbing your bean is openly welcomed.

Now go and as a group of parents if they want their young teenage girl to be made to feel uncomfortable walking to the shop by a bunch of letching workmen.

I can accept some people don't mind it.

I can accept some people find it flattering.

I can also accept some people don't and that some people do find it intimidation or offensive for various reasons.... without needing to tell any of them to "get a life, my dear god, if you get offended or intimadated by that, you gotta get a grip"... because implying they have no right to feel that way is NOT accepting their opinion, feelings or experiences.

Why would I need to accept your view that they should 'get a life' and 'get a grip' if I accept some people don't mind and some people do. Do explain how that is being a hypocrite?

I don't recall anywhere saying that the whistlers 'intend' to offend/upset/cause harm.

However, by repeatedly calling it 'harmless' implies the person on the revieving end (as you later explained) should 'get a grip'... it even implies it is 'their fault' if they don't like it and tough luck for not seeing it in the way it was intended.

The fact of the matter is, if you whistle at a complete stranger who is minding their own business, you have no idea if it will be a bit of 'harmless' fun to them or not, whatever your intentions are.... and in a grown up world we should accept the impact of our actions.

An example from the site with those struggling to understand.

i hang mainly in general chat...where no directing is allowed. The ladies in there choose what they want to show, and men are expected to respect that.

The fact i am naked on cam is MY choice.

Now if we can accept woman have a right to autonomy and to be treated with respect in a chat room, why cant we expect the same treatment on the streets?

Its ridiculous that someones job could be at risk by it, its only fun. I worked in an office as a teen with almost all women, & they revelled in trying to embarrass me. Asking me who had the better cleavage etc, you could have fried eggs on my cheeks! But it was only harmless fun at the end of the day."

It seems that the majority of opinion on FAB is that women don't mind being whistled at. This is a swinger's site, and that would be exactly the response I would expect from people who are considered to be more sexually adventurous than the "norm".

We don't know the nature of the woman/couple involved, but if you look at a religious-based forum's responses to the wolf-whistling story, you'll find completely opposite views.

Yes, there are women who dislike being sexually summed up by strangers, then notified via the medium of a whistle as to the level of their attractiveness. There just aren't many of those women on here

I've lost the will to live now i've got to the bottom ......

Comments I find wholly out order.

Women need to lighten up a little. ( jesus really - is that pre rape or post rape ? )

Grow a backbone ( Does this mean that the serious business type female managers / leaders/ politicians should be getting their tits out and not upholding a standard of any kind ? ) Come to think of it.... im with you. Women are just sluts to be wanked over.

Get a sense of humour ? ( Great one that one. If a woman objects to you sticking your cock out at her in Tesco. Tell HER she hasn't got a sense of humour. Miserable bitch hey ? )

Why is it when women object to something because it is WRONG, people go ... awwwwwwww she's easily intimidated. She's offended? ) BOLLOCKS your are wrong. Most women - adult women are not scared of you or shocked by you .... just FUCKING WELL BORED of the irritant that is patriarchal knuckle dragging , pre cummers who need to be with a gang of mates to 'look good' Wolf whistlers are seldom lone.

Ruins community spirit! I almost choked. Should be read as ... women are there to do as they are told. To laugh at my jokes and to be fucked to within an inch of their lives with no regard to their pleasures and they will not object or we will brand 'grumpy' on their arse cheeks.

Whose community is it?

Please look up the word community.

Do you live in the real world, or do you live in this really nice world wer the biggest deal on the planet is wolf whistling, I dont no about you, but ive hard worse things happen/said to me then a tounge in cheeck whistle, which is ment to demonstate that that male is saying you are hot, and he is flirting with you. i agree people dont have to like it, but O.T.T reactions like yours are ridiculas.you are well within in your rights to say fuck off, or ignore it. also i only said intimidate, beacause thats what others had said previous.

I live in a really really nice world where the worst thing that happens is wolf whistling. "

O right, fair enough then.

Simon already has absolution for anything he previously said in the thread up to the point he said I was right

I cannot defend him beyond that point.

Which programme do you pretend to be on then? I bet it's daytime telly.
