As a general question, who here thinks this is a load of BS?

Is there any truth in this phrase or does it give customers the right to be assholes towards the staff?

When they're paying, there is an element of they're right to be 'right'.

They don't have the right to be an arsehole though, but again, you can't stand up to that arseholery sadly.

The business I'm in is atrocious for those that think I'm an easy target for abuse, refunds, messing about.

no, they are not always right...and yes, it does give them the right to be assholes..unfortunately we have no concept of good customer service in this country, or respect for the people providing it so some people will always treat anyone serving them, in whatever capacity as shit becasue it makes them feel superior!

I think it's more fitting with businesses in America than those in the UK. There's a different customer service atmosphere at play.

And I don't think that the customer being right about a complaint means their attitude has to be aweful. In many cases it works in the company's favor to give the customer the benefit of the doubt. Neither party, the customer or the company's representative, have the right to be dicks, though.

Same goes the other way, though. I've never dealt with ruder customer service representatives than I have in this country.

Nothing gives anyone the right to be an arse to another person .

If you resorted to that behaviour you have already lost . There is a whole world of difference in making a valid point and standing by your consumer rights and just throwing a hiss fit because you can't get your way .

Having worked in the food & drink industry for most of my working life, I can safely say they're not always right.

However, they must feel respected and like they're always right.

totally this. it's (sometimes unfortunately) just that the employees are paid to be professional so the douchey customer is treated like they are right.

one time i stopped at my exes work after picking the kids home from school and a customer presumed i was staff and was rude to me and called me a horrible name. i called her a cheeky bitch, her face when i said that.

some people think they're entitled to be rude, well i enjoyed letting her know she couldn't talk to me like that coz i didn't work there.
