The perfect pub

couple, us we him her.

With so many pubs closing down, there does seem to be very few "real" pub's around these day's.

It used to be that the local pub was the hub of a community in smaller rural areas.

And even in town's and cities.

But with the demise of the local.

If you were to open a pub or visit one, what would you like to see to make a successful pub?

I think it starts with having people who run it enthusiastic and friendly talking to everyone not just the chosen few sitting on stools at the end of the bar.

We have a few vibrant local pubs - the trick seems to be

Exceptionally good bar staff

Space

Great selection of drinks including cocktails

Interesting food menu

Reasonably priced

Good music and a bit of live music

Heated outdoor area

These places are buzzing at the weekend and busy most nights and lunchtimes of the week.

Bar staff can make or break a pub, so they are probably the most important. And as long as the beer is cold and at a good price, customers will keep coming back

Just go to Ireland. Study them for a few days. Irish pubs are still kicking.

High Wycombe

I was told this week that The Vanilla Alternative looks like a converted old pub ... Perhaps we can find a few more and establish a chain.

Nags Head in Malvern. That's all you need to know! Few years back, as they were officially CAMRAs best town pub in U.K. They advertised for a new bar manager. Short ad.

"Wanted: Bar manager for best pub in U.K.

Person Specification: Best bar manager in U.K."

That was all it said!

La Chambre in Sheffield is a converted pub. It has a real bar where you come in, and a bar feel, with a dancefloor and a pole. The sexily clad people and a visit upstairs tells a different story
