"So was wanting to have a discussion on mental health and how it effects yourself personally, if some has ever distanced or vanished from your life when you tell them and your most hated stereotype on a certain illness. I'll go first, so I have anxiety, PTSD(due to poor childhood and army service) and depression. Most people don't notice I have these things wrong with me even when I tell them, I hate it when people say oh you can't have this because of that or your just acting it so you get money from the gov. I've lost countless love interest and friends due to them thinking I'm going to be hard work, if they stayed around they'd relies that my issues are only obvious when I'm by myself as I HATE not being normal so I hide it all perfectly. My most hated stereotype is that people think that when you have depression you're always in a low mood which is definitely not the case. " Nice body OP, sorry off subject but I think it's true . On subject however, I think with many things that people don't understand, they end up saying the wrong things without meaning to offend

It's not so much what people say it's how they continue to deal with it! For example, I'm seeing this girl and we've met several times had fun had a good laugh and then when I tell them my mental health issues they fade away

"Don't think we know enough about the subject and don't want to say the wrong things. " Just a general discussion about anybody's mental health not solely myself

"Invisible disabilities and mental health issues are better understood than they were but we've a long way to go, as you've realised from how others have responded op. An option to consider os to request support in specific ways, rather than to use a label and then have to educate others who don't understand it. I hope over time op that you won't need to hide and mask things for the benefit of others. And that you'll have good supportive people around you as the norm. " I have all the support I need but due to my time in the army I don't like going on about it or talking about it etc because I've been taught that illness is weakness, I'm super happy at how far I've progressed with the talking about it part etc

Easy to say I know but there are people out there who do understand and even if they don't know what to say will stick around and want to be with you
