The truth about age?

How honest are we?

The only age I'm concerned with is consensual.

I ask this of my fellow Fabbers as I'm often messaged with "you look good for your age" and no I don't sleep in a preservation chamber at night! Etc.

Some Fabbers do tell me they take a few yrs off for fear of missing out when selecting age parameters so it's no wonder I look good for my age if the true comparison is to that of a woman 10 yrs my senior.

It would be wonderful to think we could all be as truthful as we are liberated.

Isn't the reality physical/mental attraction.

I very much doubt age hinders all that greatly....well if you don't include the pins and needles or cramp you get when your legs are splayed for long period from one bed corner to the next.

I added 2 or 3 months to my actual age, I won't be 23 until next month.

That being said majority of women profiles look for males aged 25+ so I'm excluded in 70%? of the searches.

I was discussing the age thing with a friend yesterday.

He claims most women knock a fair few years off their age. I contend that most men do (all but one of those I have met).

I add a month to mine and have an upper limit only to restrict the 65-75 year olds who used to contact claiming to be 55-60.

i really don't understand why anyone would change their age on here,or anywhere else.. seems perfectly self defeating...maybe it tips you over into a search parameter a bit higher, but then you may see someone who's parameters are lower, so what happens then? you change the age to be lower again?

i've always found it an odd sort of compliment to tell someone they look younger than their age anyway?...why is that a good thing? i get told 'oh i love older women'..then in the same breath 'you look younger'...well,make your mind up...it it what it is..we spend literally millions of pounds desperately trying to look younger...for what? we are never going to change the age we are.

Our ages are correct. Once you reach late fifties and sixty there is no point in lying even if you want to. It is always obvious even if you think it isn't...trust me it is.

Age is important to us,its one way we have of deciding who we will be compatible with.

But for those who lie about their age - well, the reaction is "no way is h/she..." or "life's treated them particularly badly" or "bad genes" etc.

Perhaps it's just a harmless vanity, but unfortunately there is some doubt about identity on here - so to clearly lie about ones age invites scepticism for them...and for us all.

I couldn't agree more. There aren't many men who are interested in older women who don't add the caveat "who look after themselves" or "she was 50 but looked much younger".

One of my least favourite compliments is "you look good for your age" does that mean if I was younger I'd look rubbish? Why can't I just look good...no qualification?

I am lead to believe that some may have two profiles with different ages to get around the filters.

Once you get to my age maintaining two profiles and remembering how old I was supposed to be on each would be a nightmare. Some days I have to look at my id badge to remember my name

I have seen that you can alter your age "only once" it made me laugh to think how many are struggling to know how old they are. That said if there was a bit more honesty in the first instance then My guess is we wouldn't need that facility or limitation of it. I've met some woman and men in clubs and they are very open in person but it kinda puts you off when you wonder what else they lie about.

I am totally honest about mine, but I have met people who didn't believe I was mid 40s.

I would also never judge anyone by their age.

I can be equally attracted to a guy in his 20s to one in his 50s. If I have a rapport with them then age to me is irrelevant.

I see no point in lying about it yet this side of 40.

One forumite has shaved 7 years of their age recently and another has stayed the same age of 40 for 3 years with a few subtle tweaks to the username.

Fab should Market this anti aging product

I'm definitely the age that I am on my profile, to the day. I could get away with saying I'm younger - people often mistake me for still being in my late teens - but I fail to see the point. I might chance my mind on that in a few years.

Nowadays my age range for men on here falls between 30 & 40. I've always preferred older men, but too old and it gets awkward.

I have my true age listed and I quite enjoyed it when I hit 40 and was into a new age bracket, new people discovered me. Age does not concern me in a man really but I like a bit of honesty. Chatting to a guy this week who's profile said 40, eventually he admitted it is 56! That is stretching the truth and then some. Hom being 56 would not have put me off. Lying to cut 16 years from his age did though...

Changing a few things helps to go undetected by any locals who may recognise me otherwise. Even my ex didn't recognise me on here nor an ex friends husband! I recognised them both. The ex friends hubby didn't even have any pics but after reading his profile details and info, I guessed it was him...i was right!

Even everyone in your life ( even new colleagues) tell you that you look nowhere near your age, you even get ask for ID at times too, then I don't see the harm in putting the age you look, rather than the age you are. Long as you tell meets before actually meeting your true age, no harm is done.

I will be 45 in just over a month now, I don't see the point in lying about it. I am actually quite enjoying it, especially as the younger guys don't seem to mind too much either. They say you are only as old as the person ya feel and I like that I average out about 27, since joining fab!

I think it's enhanced by categories of age, eg 31-40 etc, so people move up and down to land in the one they assume its the best for their desired shag group.

It's potentially why there are many Been here before...' Users, who might leave and return with an age adjustment, for all I know.

Me? I don't look at the persons age when I read their posts. Age isn't something I consider, I look more for their maturity. So if I think someone has changed their age....it's a little silly really.

If someone doesn't want to meet me because I'm 41, why would they want to meet me 4 months ago? The age perimeters baffle me.

We both tweaked our DoB a little but by a matter of weeks , just don't like sharing personal info like that if I don't really need to.

We've met one guy who was either ten years older than he said or had had a rough paper round. Another told us after we met that he was a few years older than his profile says but I'd never have questioned it.

It's just a number and the person is more important than the number. I have more of an issue with people using ten year old pictures to support their reduced age.

I get that it can be frustrating. I guess what I'm questioning is why you would say it doesn't matter,when at the end of the day it actually does to you? I'm not having a dig because we all have our preferences. And yours is perfectly reasonable. I assume that those that are bothered by age who look at my pics will think "fuck of is she 38" won't bother contacting me.

Just to play devil's advocate. ..who's to say they are lying? They might actually just not look how you think someone of that age should look. Surely that's no different than looking at a profile and thinking "nah. I don't like the look of you"? Delete.

Could be. But I only delete when it's quite obvious. Or when they have the whole "I'm actually *this age that is above our age restictions* but the site won't let me change it" spiel on their profile. It happens. I don't freak out about it, but I also don't like it - hence it bothers me but in the end it doesn't matter too much because I just delete.

There is no set 'look' for a certain age so it doesn't actually matter.

A lot of the younger guys say we look good because they are still young enough to think anyone over 40 will have a blue rinse

The only age I'm concerned with is consensual.

I ask this of my fellow Fabbers as I'm often messaged with "you look good for your age" and no I don't sleep in a preservation chamber at night! Etc.

It would be wonderful to think we could all be as truthful as we are liberated.

Isn't the reality physical/mental attraction.

I very much doubt age hinders all that greatly....well if you don't include the pins and needles or cramp you get when your legs are splayed for long period from one bed corner to the next.

I often get told I look good ... for my age!

I see it as a backhanded compliment because I don't lie and there are no wrinkles yet

Other than the lack of hair growth on my noggin I get told I look younger than 31 in fact when I got some wine the other day the check out lady did the old double look felt good

I'll admit the first time I joined FAB years back I was only 18 so added on 2 years as I felt I was way more mature than my age suggested and wanted to experience the world but was written off before I could talk to anyone.

Now its spot on, and I realise if I'm too young on paper for someone's taste its their hang up and nothing to do with me personally.

We are honest about our age. But sometimes i wish we'd put younger. We both look about ten years younger. People are shocked when they know our real age. So pretty sure we could get away with it. But i don't think i could be dishonest. Especially as we've made friends with people on here. That would be awkward. I wonder what people do with that dilemma. People who do lie and then make friends.

Age isn't a big thing to me.. I guess I prefer mature mid 30's women upwards purely because I feel I connect to them more..

I'm 48! Yep - my official age on my profile is 43 - set a while ago to dodge a malevolent stalker!

However - I state in my profile I'm 48 - double check when pre-meet chatting that they know I'm 48 - and if asked when out in the swinging or 'real' world I'll happily admit to being 48!

I've seen people on here who lie by about 10-15+ years and it's crazy!

I'd rather look good for 48 than ropey as hell for 38!
