Profile thread to end all profile threads

We get a lot of "give me advice on my profile" threads around here, which they are more than entitled to do of course.

However, I thought I'd ask everyone what they do and dont like to see on a profile, then I'll start a new thread with the statistics and if anyone wants any profile advice, they can check it out. May work, probably won't, who knows?

So, what 3 things do you like to see on a profile and what 3 things put you off?

Decent but not too long profile text, explaining what they are looking for

A sense of humour

Dislikes:

Mugshots, or photos that are mostly of other people

'Will fill in later', or '...' profile text

Doesn't that depend on what you're looking for? If you're after pictures of norks, that's what you want on a profile. If you want to meet in a small group you'll want to see verifications that the person isn't an idiot and if you want to chat you'll want to see they can string a sentence together.

So, boobie pictures first then

Unfortunately, I don't think the fab forum has a 'sticky' feature - which would be extremely useful for exactly this type of thread.

Well intentioned as you are OP, I fear that your efforts will be for nothing when the thread disappears down the list of other topics but I wish you all the very best with it

What we'd like to see:

Clear and recent pic's, be it public or privately sent.

A profile text that actually tells us something about the person/people, helps us decide if we're likely to be compatible.

Honesty.

What we don't like to see:

Cheesy, cliche filled profile text.

Shit pic's.

Blank, or very sparsely filled profiles.

Good selection of pics

Humorous profile

Positivity

Negatives would be lots of pics with just a small part of them showing and lots of the other person in action pics.

Any negativity or putting down other people on their profile, saying things like they're not like most of the men on here.

Saying they are good looking in their profile. I just find it off putting.

But - really -

Likes :

1) a variety of nice pics, ideally sexy but not crude - well posed, classy, elegant.

2) a decent write up about what they like, what they're looking for (so if I'm not their type I won't waste their time, or mine, contacting them) and what they can offer.

3) A positive and / or fun 'feel' reading the profile. Something that, along with their gallery, transmits a bit of them and their personality to me.

Dislikes: really the opposites of the likes really!

1) just lots of hardcore pics, up close genital shots or 40 pics of their boobs and nothing else. A few is fine but as part of a mixed portfolio

2) ranty DON'T lists.. I understand that some ladies inboxes get spammed with some crap but a ranty and shouty DON'T MESSAGE ME IF .. list always make me skip on past.

3) I will probably be slated for this, as I know not everyone has strong spelling and grammar or may be dyslexic, but a spelling error or text speak laden profile is a turn off. This is your shop window, spell check your profile if possible, and if dyslexic ask a friend to proof read it first. One or two errors is ok. And I know I'm far from perfect in this myself. But a profile full of illegible text? Not for me ..

oh, and as a bonus, lose the Sydney University thing ..

Great post OP, here goes:

Likes:

Clear photographs that show that thought and imagination has gone into them regardless of how rude they are.

Concise but informative text that gives a clear picture of their wants and needs.

Text that has an injection of wit and humour and shows that they don't take themselves too seriously.

Dislikes:

Close up, fuzzy pictures of random body parts that leave me wondering exactly what it is i'm looking at.

Too brief a text with little or no information.

Too long a list of caveats and stipulations. I always seem to fall foul of at least one of them.

With reference to point 3, you may wish to reconsider, this indicates to me that you are looking for a more intelligent female. Should all profiles have perfect spelling, grammar, no text speak etc, you could be fooled into thinking a particular female is one you'd possibly like to meet. When in fact she could be your worst nightmare, had you considered that? Actually the same appplies to points 1 and 2

What I'm saying is I'd like to meet someone who takes time and effort to make sure their profile the best it can be. As it suggests to me that they'll take time to make themselves and the meet the best it can be.

If they can't be arsed on their profile, will they be arsed in a meet?

It's absolutely NOT a statement on intelligence!

Either way you are being fooled by an illusion is that what you want?

I much prefer to see a true representation of the person the profile belongs to. It makes it much easier to determine if there is any likelihood in you ever meeting with a person surely?

I can't believe I'm saying this because I never message anyone with the intention of meeting anyway and therefore don't even read their profile

A list of specific sexual activities the person expects and offers during a meet (no point wasting time swapping messages with someone who isn't sexually compatible)

Information explaining when the profile holder is normally free to meet ( no point wasting time exchanging messages with members whose availability is incompatible....

Some kind of picture that allows profile readers a fair and upfront chance to gauge mutual appeal...

What more do you need .... eh!...

I'm more concerned with what they put in their mail.

If first contacts weren't so bad, people wouldn't need to have negative lists of don'ts on their profiles.

Them: "hey ur hot"

Me: (Being polite) "Erm, thank you."

This gives them the impression they're on a promise already, so don't need to even start trying. It continues:

Them: "like ur pics."

Me: (No response, not wishing to encourage their delusion.)

"Them: "stuck up bitch. folk like u ruin this site"
