Do you have life goals?

I was chatting recently with someone who has three and is on a path to make them happen.

I realised I don't have any. I pretty much go with the flow and take opportunities as they arise or go for it if I have an idea on a whim.

If you have life goals what are they and if you don't do you feel like you should?

To be a good person. That's my main one.

Ideally, my dream come true would be to own a huge property and be able to rescue lots of dogs.

Will it ever happen? Not unless I win the lottery!

I just wing it. I have had goals, but don't think I'm driven enough.

i've had no plans ever since being in an abusive relationship where he made sure i wasn't able to plan for anything after i left him.

i actually don't mind now, at the time it pissed me off. i like drifting in and out of things and around and just living without a purpose.

At my age I've reached most of them

but not through any strategic planning or anything...

Most of the opportunities I have had have either just fallen into my lap or I've been in the right place at the right time

I did when I was younger, but I met and married my ex then the children came along. Unfortunately my eldest son became very ill and just dealing with his illness and living in and out of hospital changed my outlook on life. Just keeping him alive was my main focus. Because of his disability and my other sons as well my life has been devoted to caring for them and luckily enough through that was able to meet and set up a charitable group that I've been running for the past 17 years.

It wasn't what I imagined I'd be doing now but it's immensely satisfying helping families and seeing the children grow up and move on. Yes it's been a huge personal cost to me in many ways and my future is far from secure as I've not been able to work and get a pension, but realise that without your health everything else doesn't seem as important. So my life goals are now to be happy and enjoy what I can. X

I try and live my life in a certain way, amd it's important to me that I don't hurt or piss off to many people while staying true to my beliefs. Not sure if that's a goal or a lifestyle choice. I missed the boat with kids amd doubt I'll ever marry (not that either of those were ever huge goals) and tend to wing it in life. I have am amazing job that I fell in to by chance and don't spend too long pondering where I'll be in 5 or 20 years time.

There are a few things I'd like to do before I die but I consider them a bucket list rather than goals

I've never really thought about myself... I just try and improve the few people I get one with's day as much as I can. If I make them smile then great, if not, well I'll try next time.

As long as I dont hurt any of those people accidently, that's all I aim for.

I'm a drifter in the "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making plans" school.

I had an ex who was all about The Plan. She was very into self-help and had shelves of books with numbers in the title - 7 Habits of Highly effective People, 12 Steps to a Better You, etc et. They were all bookmarked in early chapters, because she never had a plan to actually finish reading one.

Yes I do and that is too live with my parents in spain and I give myself a 2 year plan to be there, sun sea and siestas under the palm trees and the single market

Until a few years ago they were all work related. Since then I've realised that I have another chance with this life business so have decided to a) be as good a person as I possibly can, and b) enjoy myself as much as I possibly can. I have blips with both, sometimes relatively big ones, but I continue to work on these I'm moving forward with them.
