Although let's just say people who don't spell Spider-Man correctly are right up there.

If Spiderman really does whatever a spider can..... does that mean he slides down the side of the bath when he's trying to get out?

What sort of super-hero gets stuck in the bath?

I don't accept that as fact - maybe everyone has tbe innate potential to be envious but not everyone is.

Do I envy the person who won £161 million - nope because they are going to have lots of new challenges that they wouldn't have had before being wealthy - I'll bet they are both higher up on some nutters kidnap list now tgat they have money for a big ransom.

So I'm happy where I am and I'll bet a lit of others are too.

i agree with that but its how you deal with it that makes us different

I can look at someone and think they are nice looking, have a nice body, have nicer things than me and suppose deep down wish it was me, but i would never me nasty towards someone or decide i didnt like someone simply because they had what i wanted

I envy people who really don't care what they wear, it always looks good in their eyes.

I envy people who right at this moment are rolling around in a field naked under the sun with a hunky fella.

I envy people who make flanges for a living.

It's not usually low self worth. It's usually more low EI and a childish "it's not fair" attitude resulting from not facing up to controlling their own life and always wanting to blame someone else for their shit.

I was okay before reading the contributions on this thread.

Now i'm plumping for my pet hate of the moment as being the overuse of exclamation marks and question marks.

Using more than one question mark doesn't strengthen the question just as any number above one exclamation mark is superfluous.

Overuse of the exclamation mark is a sign of emotional instability.

Not exactly a hated thing, but I do find it a tad annoying when people leave out wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust and gluttony..... it's not fair to pick a favourite.

Very true on both points.

i hate people who get off on winding others up, including in my book practical jokes. i cant understand them,or the pleasure in upsetting others.

When people treat me like a fool and think they'll get away with it - rather be told "I don't like you because of ..." than smile to my face and stab me in the back when not looking.

I end up moving them from "Friend" to the "U-files" (unreliable) where no one gets out.

That's because they're so low in themselves, the only way they can feel better is to bring others down to their level.

So I am lacking in emotion?.....as I certainly don't envy anyone.

So how do you come to the conclusion that I for example lack emotion?....considering you have never know me, or met me.

You guess wrong

Arguments?

Think you will find it's a discussion with differing views.

Or should we all just agree with everything others say about topics?

So show me (us) the connection between lack of envy and a lack of emotion?

If as a person you are totally happy with your lot and envy no other person, just how does that point to a lack of emotion?

I agree totally Rugby...

Unfortunately this is the perfect example of how reading a Wikipedia article on a subject, without reading the full article, can influence someones post on a subject.

Just because one Social Psychologist thinks that Envy is an emotion....it doesn't mean diddly squat when other Psychologists disagree with that view and see Envy as a feeling rather than an emotion.

It's all professional conjecture

Just about everyone envy someone no mayyer who they are. Without envy of others man wouldn't have evolved as he has.

Lack of passion well i would say more someone who can't be bothered even being envious of others although i think its bollocks as everyone is envious of someone.

That's the point!

Not EVERYONE is envious of others....regardless of what you personally believe, you don't know anyone else but yourself when it comes down to personal emotions or feelings.

That's what makes us all individuals, we don't all fit into neat little boxes.

Surely the deciding factor of whether envy is a bad thing or not is how we deal with it.

If I envy a successful business entrepreneur for their achievement, wealth and lifestyle I could react one of a number of ways, for example:

1 – wish I could be like them through a jealous eye and sulk that I am not them … and so wish they didn’t have it either.

2 – accept defeat that I am not like them and forget about it.

3 – be happy for them and wish that one day it would just happen that way for me….but do nothing about it but dream.

4 – wish I could be like them and hold them up as a role model to help me focus on what I must do to share a similar accomplishment.

Is envy always a bad thing?

I wouldn't say envy is always a bad thing....but it is possible to admire a business model for example and aspire to be as good as them, without feeling envy.

Do I admire the business achievments of others, do I see some business leaders as role models for my own business dealings?

Of course I do, but that is admiration and not envy.
