Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

That was one of the chat up lines on the train heading home last night.

It's big, it's curly and it's dark but the silver strands are visible and I really don't think anyone would a) get a wig like this or b) dye their hair to get this particular colour combination.

Is your hair real?

Yes

I stripped years of dark red, dark purple and black dye off it in March 2015. It's been its natural brown since. It's a nice shade.

My ear and nostril hair is sadly all too real and getting more volumous by the day!

Yeah. I have people ask me it regardless of whether or not I straighten it. Giant curls seems to attract more questions on the authenticity of it here, straightened has that effect in Barbados.

Or they tell me how much they like my weave.

Do you get it burnt off at the barbers?

I wanted to slap him almost as soon as the train left the station. It was too full to change seats so I was stuck with him drinking and giving me his phone number for the whole journey. He wasn't rude (until he got to my hair), just relentlessly persistent.

eyebrows didn't hold the colour that well, so about 7-10 days, pubes didn't last much longer, it was quick and easy to do, but only as a novelty thing, up keep would be too annoying for me.x

Then comes the 'what sort' question.

Although I did have to wash them last year in washing powder following an oily nit treatment, it was the only thing that got rid of the grease and the aroma of laundry stayed with me for weeks.

I have sometimes had the thought that it's not 'professional' enough. I've even had someone on Fab tell me that they would prefer to meet me if my hair was in a more professional style.

I had a year where I decided to not wear make-up of any sort and embrace my curls. My career was at its height at that point. I'm never going to have enough interest to take the time to do the work to keep it straight; I like to wash it every day in the shower, put some oil, serum or cream on (depending on what I have in) and leave it alone to do its thing. I'm very lazy.

I am not happy about the anglicising of hair and beauty to be the definition of beauty or professional. Every few years Afro curls come back into fashion and that begets its own fetish.

"Mine is all mine and with very little grey

Do you know when your parents went grey? You may be genetically programmed to not go grey.

"

They both went grey in their late 50s does that mean i have good hair genes

"That was one of the chat up lines on the train heading home last night.

It's big, it's curly and it's dark but the silver strands are visible and I really don't think anyone would a) get a wig like this or b) dye their hair to get this particular colour combination.

Is your hair real?

No

Hair started falling out after death of my son. Plus side, there are some fantastic wigs around. Even my black friends think my hair is real."

And you get to change your look daily, if you so wish.

Bristol

My hair is mostly real. The colour is as near to real as it can be for most of its length due to the premature silvering I am not ready to embrace. The tips are currently unreal and a bit ginger.

This for me too, I love to be male with long hair and equally female with my natural hair x"

The best of all hair worlds.

It means you are unlikely to go grey until your late 50s.

You have to be careful saying the tips are unreal and a bit ginger.

There's a theme here. I wonder if people just don't trust what they see any more?

Good for you. My 'carpet' isn't as glittery as the 'curtains' - yet.

Actually, I do because that makes it sound like I've got extensions. The tips are all real hair that I grew myself (although I could get it cut, it's nearly waistlength now when it's wet). It's just the colour on the ends that isn't natural.

I was thinking about enunciation.

Mine is very much my own, but the colour is totally unnatural. To be honest I'm not entirely sure what my natural hair colour is any more... I used to be blonde.

It's big, it's curly and it's dark but the silver strands are visible and I really don't think anyone would a) get a wig like this or b) dye their hair to get this particular colour combination.

Is your hair real?
