what "tool" or "object" have you used in the past to help you temporarily fix a problem... e.g I used a metal coathanger once to fix an exhaust til I got home.

Only two items are required...

WD40 type lubricant and Duct tape.

If it moves and it shouldn't = Duct tape

If it doesn't move and it should = WD40

Lol - was just thinking my father was able to fix just about everything in the house, more often than not without the right tools or materialsm nonetheless he managed to put in at least a temporary solution until he could get it fixed properly. I admire that ability in people, when they can "fix" something simply by being really practical and think on their feet....

Theres a complicated flush mechanism in the downstairs bathroom toilet - some sort of suction mechanism and tubing rather than a ballcock thingy (thats dead technical) it kept flushing continuously and needed something wedging in it - I used the finger guard off a mandolin chopper thingy and it fitted perfectly - it's been there for about a month now!!!!

The sky fitters left a long cable that flapped in the wind and annoyed me.

My son pulled up in the drive to find me up on the roof above my bay window with a ball of string tying it up and incorporating it into trellising for a climbing clematis( both are now secure and look pretty ) His girlfriend looked aghast to see me perched up on high, he just said to her, don't mind my mum, she does this sort of thing a lot.
