why is cooked meat ....

..... so feckin expensive ?

i am not talking luncheon meat, corned beef, bernard matthews or the type of 'ham' that is 50 % water, i am talking something that actually resembles a sliced piece of actual meat.

£3.50 to £4.00 is not unusual to pay for 3/4 average slices of beef or turkey

think i need to start buying joints and cooking / slicing them myself

Or going to Lidl or Aldi or even Asda where there are some really good cooked meats for half that price.

I try NOT to buy cooked anything. I like to buy nutrition not just a filler which is why I buy very cheap fresh veg and not the humongosly expensive prepared veg.

thats what i do, buy joints and cook and slice them myself, pork is cheap at moment a kilo joint of Belly or Shoulder is about £3 a kilo in Morrisons.

Lamb is very expensive though

Why is it with certain packaged meats, it can often be described as "cured"?

I mean, was it ill at some stage, but it got better?

Live in the country & rustle a few sheep. Cows can be a little harder to fit in the back of your average family saloon though.

the only meat i buy precooked is breaded wiltsire ham..

chicken thighs & drumsticks are cheap and far more tastier in sandwiches than slices chicken breast.. yum yum

From time to time, I would treat myself to a few slices of medium rare roast beef from the deli counter, to be eaten with a sauce made of dark soya sauce, chilli oil, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and freshly ground pepper, yum!

I prefer to have a variety of cold meat in the fridge, ready to eat when I feel like it.

Hence I seldom cook a joint.

I do for myself but the kids have been here all weekend and they eat like pigs.

Mind you the carvery we went for today dont think i could of cooked it cheaper at home

Got one of them on offer price so it's roasting in the oven, serving with a selection of fresh veg to the intrepid fishermen on their return. xx

Talking of cold meat.

I discovered sliced garlic sausages are great pan-fried, to be eaten with a chilli mayo with sesame seeds!

And my local supermarket often have them on special offer!

lol i didnt have stuffing potatos or crackling or yorkshire my only sins where the gravy lol. Will probley still not loose this week though lol

I love pork/gammon/sausages/bacon
