50 shades of gay

50 years since it stopped being illegal to be gay.

I think we have come along way in 50 years.

There will always be bigots and hatred towards people that are different. But in this country people hardly blink if they see same sex couples. My partner a bi sexual man remembers when it was illegal to be gay. I also know a few older gay guys although not discussed it with them.

No longer do people have to hide their sexuality.

Im looking forward to watching these programmes. First is on channel 4 at 9pm

I'll be watching as much as I can. I think it's important to remember what others have faced so that I can be free and open about my sexuality today.

Thing is. Change takes time. 50 years sounds along while but its not in the grand scheme of things. Its in my life time.

Same sex couples are now parents. Married.

We have come along way.

Ive seen how its changed. Very much. Whispers about batchelor guys.

Also we now have so many sexual orientations its not going to be the norm to be "straight.

Well i believe in the next few years we will do away with sexual orientation and just all be ourselves.

I read an article today about how being gay is evolution cutting down the population explosion etc. How if your the youngest in your family your more likely to be homosexual. We've all got the gene in our DNA , but it's activated in the mothers womb when the family is getting too big. .

I'm going to finish reading it tonight. it's an I retesting view, another one which obviously can't be proven.

*corrected spelling

thats interesting. I also wonder how many actually kept their sexuality a secret. I dont believe we suddenly have all these different orientations. I think its so sad so many had to live their whole life a lie. In those days it was a mental illness.

Over the last year I've managed to tell about 6 of my friends that I'm bi and a tv but I don't think I'd ever tell everyone or my family. It's also one of the reasons I've been single for so long as I doubt t I could tell a potential partner. Being bi alone puts off an awful lot of women, to throw being a TV in there as well shuts off like 99% of women. People don't seem to understand that it's possible for me to be a masculine man day to day but also be bi and have a feminine side too

This is it. We're not evolving in my eyes. I think until we become a fully accepting society, peololevwill hide it with fear of judgement. We say we're accepting but there's those that make it difficult for complete honesty. Religion has played a part for 100s of years fear mongering. Don't get me started.

I'm lucky, as my lovely partner manages this feat of tolerance.

Some of my friends know I'm a bi TV, most don't talk about it. Some out of respect for my privacy, some because it makes them uncomfortable. I'm happy with their choices, if they want to ask questions they can.

A old (male) friend recognised me on here, spoke to me about it & then offered to take me to any club I wanted to visit as I don't drive.

"I enjoyed that but i enjoyed the gay buildings more"

I thought Britain's Great Gay Buildings was very well done. I remember going to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in the 80s and I really hope they can fight off the developers.

The children and young people I know have grown up knowing families of every make up and find it strange when people are homophobic in any way. Yet they also know that an older member of the family that they are very fond of still has to hide his sexuality from his siblings and mother.

The Anglican Church in Scotland is leading the way supporting gay weddings in church. Fifty years is a wonderful milestone but is nothing if you still experience discrimination under the law.

London

It is still not accepted in the country I currently live in, hence the travel once or twice a year to the UK to crossdress and to fulfil my other half's need.

But I think the most important thing is that we, accept ourselves, however we chose to live.

I don't think it's living a lie, being a man in my country.

I look at it as I'm being considerate and non-confrontational because I know many in my social circle won't be able to accept the fact that i fancy fellow men and crossdress.

I accept and love myself as a man as well as a guy-in-a-dress (since Dec 2012).

I've found my better half, my soulmate.

Central

It's great progress and tragic that religious beliefs hold people back from accepting others as equals and deserving respect.

I watched some of the shows tonight, including the music one.
