Saw the "New Age Traveller" celebrating the summer solstice, wonder if they know it was the winter solstice that used to be celebrated?

To be fair I think they just do it for fun now. Its been a long time since we were a hunter gatherer society.

I think the evenings stay the same for a while after the solstice. Its the dawns coming later that shorten the day, not the evenings starting earlier. That only lasts a few days though.

Lose daylight from both ends because Earth is tilted.

East Lancashire

Winter has never gone away, we just had an unseasonably warm few days in between cold snaps.

The Earth isn't Tilted, it runs a 22 degree curvature on its orbital rotation.

The axial rotation is perfectly straight.

.

Not to be pedantic but it's currently 23.5.

I say currently as it wobbles around a 30 odd thousand year cycle which gives you the precession of the equinox, maximum tilt is I think 24.5 however it can be as little as 21.

The milankovitch cycles which also include a wobbly rotation around the sun which is like 100s of thousand years are quite fascinating, these also alter the dates of the equinoxes along with the fact that the Gregorian calendar is not very actuate

From when the clocks go forward till they go back is such as short period that I class that as winter,I think it is something like 3 months(please correct me if I am wrong)to me that is winter.Winter to me is only 12 to 16 weeks which is only a drop in the ocean. So roll on summer.

.

The clocks change late October and late march which is nearer five months but that's not the vernal equinoxs
