Overly polite..

Is it just me who gets a bit freaked when people are overly polite?

Like in messages, sometimes I get "it would be an honour to meet you" or stuff along those lines.

Is it hard to find the right balance between charming and creepy?

'An honour to meet you' just sounds a bit creepy, and a line that might be used just to get the foot in the door.

Once in, the politeness disappears soon after

Personally I think it only feels creepy if you're not attracted to the person! Often behaviour that creeps me from one person turns me on from another.

It's a fickle world. (Or I mean, I am)

Yeah, this

Someone I'm attracted to, I think "oooooo, you bloody charmer"

Someone I'm not I think "eeewwwww, you're scaring me"

Someone messaged telling me they loved me with lots of kisses on the end. That's stepping the mark for being creepy

Hhhhmmmmm....I kinda see your point but as an introduction its too much I think. Someone Ive been chatting to saying it in a cheeky way would come across much better.

As an introduction, I agree. I wasn't clear that you meant it was an opening message!!

Next time I sent a FAF message I'll make sure it's by white pigeon, and as you open it, a band of marriachi will start playing a ballad for you as I kneel on one leg with a red rose in my teeth!

I'm not sure if I spelled marriachi correct.

I've always worked on the basis of being polite and good natured in messages and approaches to people; it has worked in my favour, with get responses.

But there's Polite, and Too Polite! What the OP has experienced is really OTT, almost seems too smarmy and in my mind, really off putting!

Conversely I've met lots of people who have complimented me on being so polite and respectful! The filthy fun comes later but too many guys start off with "I want to fuck you". And yes I've used that line because I genuinely mean it. Us single guys being invited to join someone for sexual pleasure is, indeed, an honour!

I like that type of message when I've been talking to them a while or have met them. But as an opening it's a bit overkill x

He may be in a work environment and officially in work mode

He just needs to mix his politeness with his real intentions i.e.

"It would be an honour madam to spank your arse the first chance I get"

I don't mind it so much. I guess it can be difficult to find the line between sincerity and compliments and I know some genuinely communicate like that. A bit twee but nothing that freaks me out.

Different people speak differently.

Some people i would feel honoured to meet.

Others meh.

Also im sure that women and couples het bored of the same old messages?

Many profiles say be yourself, be original, have some banter etc.

Maybe they are trying to do exactly that.

I try to always be polite when messaging people.

We don't think we'd be creeped out, but it would raise eyebrows.

It would depend if it was someone putting on a persona, or if that was genuinely an aspect of their personality.

I can empathise as when I was younger due to my upbringing I spoke in an extremely formal way that baffled people.
