The weather.

Sun, wind, rain, hail, snow, frost you name it we get it and I'm thankful for that otherwise the good people of Britain would be bereft of conversation.

Love to: I think our Democracy is the foundation of all positive aspect our country.

The rule of law, personal freedoms.

And I think the rebuilding of Britain during post war consensus had a vision and compassion to it that is more admirable in orders of magnitude greater than displays death machines or foreign gentry.

I think the people still have a great mentality.

British people are among the most tolerant and supportive I've ever seen. I've had relatives who've lived abroad for 25+ years and they say the same.

For me it would be the British humour. We can laugh at ourselves and not take things too seriously

We punch way above our weight globally when it comes to music. And in musical history that's fairly recent. A member of my family has been living very much abroad for a decade and the thing he misses most is interesting music that makes you stop and listen. He also misses proper cider and perry since orchards need to be generations old before the fruit is really good enough. But that could be a West Country thing rather than full British.

That's because the British are modest.

You cannot claim any current activity as great.

Only the actions of the past.

Be humble

But in reality let's face it there's few places on earth you could have fell out of your mother with such advantages.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I think our food is some of the best in the world, and I've eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world. Not long ago it was shit, and we do tend to think that American junk food is something worth eating, but our restaurants and chefs are coming along nicely.

It's also got less corrupt Government and Police than most other countries, better weather over all than most countries, a better standard of living than most countries, less annoying taxes, free healthcare (mostly), lovely countryside, and more miles of coastline than any other country.

OK, we're not the best at anything specific, but the overall experience is great, and I always enjoy coming home.

"I think our food is some of the best in the world, and I've eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world.

OK, we're not the best at anything specific, but the overall experience is great, and I always enjoy coming home."

"We punch way above our weight globally when it comes to music.

Oh yes! How could I forget cider and perry?!

I prefer the U.S. for most things, but I think the cider in this country can't be beat.

I'm really bored if hearing people slag off GB!

I have travelled a lot for many years - and while I appreciate different cultures and places - England is my home.

I love London - it's the best city I've been to- and I've been to a lot.

I love British humour, manners, Health service, weather ( I love having seasons) , I love our wages in comparison to other countries, opportunities, freedom....

I could go on and on.

I feel really offended when I hear people from other countries slagging my birthplace off.

Of course you miss your home country - where your family and friends are.

But don't hate the place that is affording you a wage!

I never behaved like that in the countries I lived in.

Britain; two best things

Beer - yes, other countries have their own styles of beer, but ours are pretty unique. We have thousands of breweries, and wherever you go, there will be osme sort of "Local Brew". All this from tradition, rather than being a "craft beer" fad for hipsters wanting 8 billion different styles of either lager or IPA. CAMRA - socks and sandles over hipster beards anyday.

Bread: No, not that weird synthetic longlife oddness that you get in the supermarket. Actual bread, granary cobs, white farmhouse and so on. Its so much moree diverse and tasty tham most countries bread (Up yours, France).

That's primarily the reason people love our country. The jingoism as you call it or as everyone else calls it patriotism. We have something most other countries don't and that's history. I have little patience with GB/UK 'haters'. I have lived abroad in various places and the UK has so much more going for it:

- Variable weather

- History

- Pioneering people

- Our inclusive attitude

- Beautiful countryside and beaches

- Lower levels of corruption than many other countries

- One of the most successful economies in the world

- Our ability to laugh at ourselves

- Our response to crises

Nope sorry on googling it was America that started the packet sharing networks way before the internet.

Cern was where hyperlinks and the world wide Web system started.

But still in Switzerland if lead by a British scientist.

Thing is no discoveries now are solely one nation. Look at CERN and ITER any major project is massively multinational now

You realise that the NHS performs fairly poorly when compared to other health care systems such as those in Europe?

Comparing it to an American system is silly. Compare it to Germany, Sweden etc and it comes up short.

Also for "capitalist" America they spend more in government money per person on health care than the uk does

Which does show how inefficient thier system is they spend enough in tax money to actually have an NHS but still need private contributions

True.

I'd hate to have a healthcare system like the US. But that doesn't mean we can't learn from other countries. Unfortunately, it seems that when a politician tries to 'reform' the NHS, they have the American model in mind.

I don't see any evidence of wanting the US system. The US system ranks very poorly in the world. The NHS ranks about 18th. There are plenty of better systems about but they would cost more. The people who think the NHS is amazing either work there or suffer from some kind of stockholm syndrome.

Imagine america, if you cant afford healthcare, you don't get it. imagine socialist Canada or the capitalist U.S. I hate to think britain turning into a capitalist country like the US

I know of a lot of people who work for the NHS who don't think it's amazing.

"Our world famous welfare system.

I'm hoping that's limited to a 15 metre kill radius on that social hand grenade you just dropped in the thread "

I guess you're not so proud of it then.

It's funny how a positive thread about Britain can't happen without negative comments about America. I think you people have a complex

The best thing about Britain is that it is not America.

Has anyone said Wigan yet? I thought they wouldn't. Good job and all as they'd be lying, it's a shit hole.

Oh and I agree on the great British sarcasm and humour.

I would say our relatively stable politics (for the time being).

And the English language.

I think there are so many great things about Great Britain

The Arts : Literature, theatre, art, music, film. Truly incredible works are created and performed and taught and loved by so many.

The Diversity : Food, people, shops. The list is far from complete but there are so many great examples.

The Architecture : Stunning to put simply. The NT properties, the houses of religous worship, castles...

The landscape : The difference in countryside; the harsh, stark beauty of Scotland compared to the gentle rolling Herts countryside.

That's a few things. I love living here. Yes, it has it's problems as does everywhere.

I echo the sentiments of a poster above but with my own twist. I can't stand the 'cool haters' of GB as well. Just bugger off.

I haven't got a problem with slavery, as long as it's done on social standing not race...

I bitch about stuff here. I grumble about the weather, government and politics, my neighbours, the weather, driving conditions and traffic, the weather, people in general, appalling sports results that don't really matter and sometimes I may comment upon my dissatisfaction with the weather. But I absolutely this country!
