looks as if in the new TV deal.... the BBC and SKY are going to split showing the Grand Prix's... so they will each show half of them live... the BBC will show highlighs of the ones they don't cover live... all of them will still be covered live on BBC Radio...

the ones the BBC will Keep at least will be the British GP, the Monaco GP, The First and Last GP's of the season wherever that will be.....

(I am guessing the BBC will keep the ones closest to the UK and SKY will do the more exotic ones.....)

the deal comes in next season and will last till 2018....

so two things.....

1) if you don't have sky... is this going to make you cross the threshold and get it....

2) if you have sky.. but not sky sports... is this going to make you upgrade?

Sky will show all of the F1 calendar, every race live, the BBC will show around Eight or Nine races live.

This has been coming for ages, the BBC can hardly afford half the calendar if truth be told.

I don't have sky and will not subscribe just to watch them, maybe find a local pub.

But I suppose it's better that the BBC have some than non

The truth is F1 broadcasting rights are so ridiculously over priced, it was a miracle that the BBC managed to show it without the benefit of TV advertising revenue.

I shouldn't think that there are many countries where you can watch F1 coverage without advertising breaks.

Does F1 contribute to the price of producing the programs for broadcasting??

"Does F1 contribute to the price of producing the programs for broadcasting??"

It can't....it's a 100% buy in product and the BBC can't redistribute coverage.

F1 (The company) arrange all filming, production and Video recording of races.

They then sell it on to various broadcasters like the BBC and Sky to air on television.

perhaps ive missed something here.. but the BBC's only source of income is from Licensing because it doesn't have advertising from outside companies. the only plus sides to spending stupid amounts of money to broadcast the F1 would be a temporary gain in viewing figures? It wont gain money by having more viewers because everyone who watches tv must have a licence.. so why are the BBC spending so much money?????

Because the way the BBC is set up it is almost designed to waste License payers money, it is a dinasaur of an establishment.

So Sky have this burning desire to watch a procession of cars go round and round and round a supposedly called RACE track with the only exitement being a pit stop!

How about the BBC and Sky showing proper racing that involves regular overtaking, that will be novel!!

they did use to show Nascar.... but they gave that away....

I can see they launching another sports channel... getting nascar back.. you could almost bill it as a motor channel

Fortunately the BBC show MotoGP - proper racing WITHOUT pit stops and therefore is another real bonus - the grid totty is SO much better than F1

Shame.

I like F1 on the bbc they do a great job.

We used to have sky until a year or so ago, but it became to expencive.

It would not suprise me if F1 on sky became a pay per view like some of the boxing!

I look at it as paying for something you have already paid for, but thats just me.

They do a great job on sky covering sports events, but i will not go back to them.

You get used to not having it and we started with sky from year one.

Pity will have to watch the highlights only now

" Money speaks, as per usual!

"

Of course it does, F1 is a business.

The cost of running teams and cars is astronomical, it requires massive sponsorship and advertising just to get cars on the track.

The BBC were always punching above their weight with broadcasting F1, they have no advertising revenue to back it up.

Half the races and if viewing figures drop which they will then will drop more races.

Sky sports subscription never, bad enough with paying for movie packages

actually sky have already said the races will be commercial free.. and they it is going to be part of the sky sports packages, so i assume that would have been written into the contracts

the bbc's response is that this is because of the cuts to license fee spending they have had to do......

I would not upgrade for F1, its a boring procession with no real action at all. Much prefer BTCC on ITV, *real* bumper to bumper racing from flag to flag.Motors TV on Sky(Ch.413 IIRC) has lots of touring car action, the lower powered single-class cups, etc, and its free

if you havent got sky sport's it's a total ball ache.....i here they wont b interupted thoe with 2 many adverts....which is good....also if you do already have sky sport's then in my opinion sky do a much better coverage on other sports like boxing, football, and stuff so hopefully it will be good at least.

not worth paying to watch f1 as due to all the safty rules now its pish exspecialy in the dry but can be worth watching if its lightly raining then you get action ie crashes and overtaken. but it can't get to wet or the safty rules jump in again.

Wouldn't put any of my money Murdoch's way. Moving FIA Rally to a pay channel din't make me fork out. I just listen to rally radio on the internet. If F1 moves to a pay channel at some point I'll probably stop watching that too.

iMO The BBC provides great value at just 7 quid a month, would far rather pay that to be educated and entertained than dumbed and dumber paying that greedy barsteward and his megalomaniac tendencies, were the only thing that counts in a modern democracy is profit as his lying ruthless dick of a son James said

F1....No in race adverts

Premiership Football....No in play adverts

If the BBC were to have all live Premiership football for example, they would have to increase the license fee to the extent that no-one could afford it.

Good luck we live in a real world in 2011....

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Another one who will never ever pay Sky or News Internaional (they`re virtually the same bloody company anyway!) Don`t forget that Rupert Murdoch is a big contributor to the Cons(ervatives)and they hate the BBC.

I`ll be getting my Freeview satellite dish pointing at the German channel that will still be showing the Sky only races for free!

One new interesting thing on this (as mentioned on a lot of motoring forums)

Sky might show one race on sky sports 1 next on sky sports 2 etc.

Meaning that a full sky sports package might have to be purchased.

Not confirmed yet, but i would not be Surprised.
