just bought a maxi dress and looking forward to a friends wedding.. 'girlie' isn't really my style but i'm even thinking about curling my hair, wearing dangley earrings and braceletes...

this summer weather is doing things to me!! Have you ever drifted from your typical style and was it for the better or worse?

Go for it. I can only speak for myself, but I've been around a bit, lol, but most blokes like ladies to look like ladies.

Long dresses and dangly bling is a look that I personally like, and it's how Kate dresses at times.

I'm sure you'd look gorgeous, so go with it. If you feel good, you'll look good, and importantly your confidence will grow which in turn is another attractive trait for us guys

Hope I don't sound like your dad, lol, but glam up, and you'll be fighting them off with a big stick

Being a bigger girl ive always stuck to wearing black and often end up in black trousers or a long skirt with a longer length 'dressy' top for such occasions. My style since becoming a mum has gone downhill as i dont have time to do my hair in the mornings.. plus id rather spend money on her toys & books than updating my wardrobe.

I just hope the dress looks and feels good when im wearing it

Go for it Cutey, always good to try a new look, practice it before the actual day though.

You say you're a bigger girl like it's a bad thing.... my daughter is no size 14 but she's a super girl, why? Confidence. Knowing which clothes will work for her and going for it.

What would you say to your daughter if she was always on about being a big lass?

I invested in a maxi dress, not really thinking I would probably get much wear out of it....I ended up buying three more.

They hide any bumps I don't want showing plus are low at the front to show off the bumps I don't mind showing and feel very feminine.

Go for it, I bet it will look lovely.

I change my style regularly, dirty work clothes all week, then the weekend comes and BAM total change! If its hot then shorts and a t shirt, mild/cold then jeans and jumper, and when I cant be arsed on goes the tracky!! though some weekends I like to lounge around in just my boxers/thong depending on the company

Just being realistic and there are certain looks that bigger girls can't carry off.. like jeggins or tight fitting things.

I compare myself to most of my friends and the fashion trends and ive always been conservative with my clothing choices.. keep it respectable. I know my bodys plus points and negatives. Only wore a dress once and the comments were really nice and yes i did feel like a million pound

used to live in Jeans and vest tops with my Timberlands when i was a size 14.. but since ive ballooned to a 24 and being only 5'2 its really depressing when ironing jeans to discover my ass is as wide as my leg length is long.. so they went off the list of things to wear.

Oh dear, are they back again?? I wouldn't wear one, but some ladies look really good in long, girly dresses. As a change from jeans or trousers,they are good cos you do feel more "freedom"! lol After wearing skirts and tops, it will make you feel very "girly". I bet you will look great Sassy x

I did wear them for a while in the 1970's and didn't like it! Because I was fairly thin (ok, skinny!) they used to hang off me like I was a coat hanger. Pete used to complain that he couldn't see my legs and to be honest, I did wear very short skirts and dresses. He also used to say it hid too much of me, so gave em up and went back to the little pieces of material that passed as clothes back then lol

Rumour thats the thing im slightly worried about that its going to hang off all the lumps & bumps that it shouldn't and will excentuate the fact im a whale rather than show ive a bust, get nipped in at the waist and flow over (massive fingers crossed) my tummy area skimming over the wobbly bits..

What i might do is wear the dress for a while to see what it feels like for comfort reasons rather than look straight in the mirror.. then just imagine that i look like the model in the picture while strutting around haha

If i look bad in it.. well people don't have to look

with you on the "freedom" part there Rumour. I'm a size 6-8 (size 12/14 chest) but don't feel confident showing off my body, so the maxi gives me the girly option but still covers me up. At the end of the day, whether a size 6 or 26... we all have confidence issues at times x

I'm a bit of 80's casual kinda guy, fila jacket's addidas sambas, fred perry shirt's ellesse that kind of gear.....but when i went 2 live with 2 m8s in preston they were in2 there vintage stuff, drssing propper bohemion, so i treid 2 change my style 2 suit the crowd, vintage jumper and all that jazz.....but my frame and hair just didnt suit, i looked like a wally....so i went back 2 dressing like a bjorn borg in the 80's...sitting there with people with long hair and cravats, and deck shoes.....and we all got on famously ended up being a running joke.

Awww, Sassy hunny, bet you will look £1 million dollars xx. If you have any issues (and laine is right, we all have them) perhaps a light control type basque or similar would give you that extra confidence? Because confidence is all you need

That is a really good idea if it is not your usual style or you are not too sure. I do that, wear it a bit and you start to feel more comfortable in it and can "see" it better.

wow had a look and its a really good choice, beautiful. I would accessorise that with some turquoise chunky jewellery, but depends on your skin and hair colour really. Add a pair of heels as high as you can comfortably manage, (platforms are good for adding height) and you will really wow them.

I'd keep it big and chunky, maybe slightly retro. Nip out round the charity shops, specially British Heart as they do their own line of semi precious chunky jewellery and it is not at all expensive.

i was dabling with the idea of wearing flip flops.. but decided to dress it up with some high wedges.. think i need all the help in the height department i can get

Why not take some sparkly flip-flops with you? that's what I do, as when I start dancing the heels get kicked off, but many places insist you can't go barefoot now. xxx

i'm very flat footed and very clumpy.. i do try the heel toe heel toe thing but look a twat and not very elegant

I before I got with my master was a typical laddette I guess.. I did have some lovely dresses but they were for special occassions..

As things developed between Master and I.. I had to start wearing skirts.. and dresses.. and now to be fair I often prefer it..

I was a jeans girl before.. now I am always dressed to impress..

although even under my jeans I tended to have nice underwear on.. I would never wear unmatching..

Do you ever switch a fan on when trying something on and looking in the mirror.

A friend of mine does and to be fair she does have a point.

In the house there is no wind (unless you've been on the beans of course) so soft floaty fabrics look very flattering.... as you say they cover the bits you are happy to be covering.

Then you get out in a bit of a light breeze and suddenly the soft floaty flattering fabric turns into a clingfilm body suit

ooooo good point! luckily in the situation i'll be wearing it its for an indoor event. Great little tip though

I know what clothes I like and I dont tend to stray away from that. I am certainly not conservative in the clothes I wear, I never have been, but I cannot ever imagine going out in jeans and a top.

I think some maxi dresses are pretty but I prefer the ones that are slightly fitted and straight skirted rather than loads of floaty material. I do have one but it wouldnt be my favourite item of clothing. I prefer fitted dresses because even though I am a big girl, I do have defined curves and fitted dresses suit me. I prefer fitted pencil skirts with a split up the thigh rather than lots of fabric. I tend to go for rather dressy dresses.

I do like colour and I do like ethnic style clothing with beads / diamantes, some kind of emblishment on. I like indian clothing, the indian suits in particular. I wear the tunic as a dress and dont bother with the trousers. I like indian jewellery too and Bindi's etc. I would love a saree, but theres a knack to pleating it and Im not good at that.

of course I dont tend to wear this type of clothing for swinging or stick jewels on my face etc, Im more conservative and would wear a fitted dress when on a meet.

Bless you my child - oo ive come over all religious. I do have curves but I also have a huge saggy tummy and backside

so its not that great really. I wish the bustle would come back, wouldnt need the construction to make my backside stick out any further.

Floaty fabrics are lovely, but they do make me look bigger or pregnant, yet Im better in more fitted clothes.

I don't follow fashion, as nothing in the shops fits, so I have my formal clothes tailored made for me.

They are what some would consider as boring, as in classic styles and shapes that do not date.

I would rather look good in something that fits and in the colours that are flattering to me, which can make me look slimmer in the process; than to spend a fortune on throw away fashion that are ill-fitting and not particularly well-made.

I never follow what colours are supposed to look good on me, I dont really know what colours do. If I like something I will buy it and wear it. I know what shapes suit me but never colours.

I have my colours done a long time ago, and confirmed what I already know, plus some surprises too.

Like I can wear head to toe purple or burgundy!
