Have been suffering from this for the past 14 years comes and goes but never goes completely and this last few have had a serious breakout. Have had it mainly on my arms not a pretty sight and very self concious. Now I have started getting it in my hair. Doctor has done nothing apart from steroid creams. Has anyone got any tips or even better a cure. I am using sunbeds at the moment as have heard these help. But as I am fair I tend to burn even using a high factor sun lotion.

You have a skin condition and you're using a sunbed?

Out of the frying pan and into the fire?.. it's not rocket science is it.. be extra vigilant with your skin and how it reacts to your environment.. ie.. don't burn it.

I used to work for a man who suffered terribly. He used to go to the hospital on a weekly basis for sunbed type treatment... can you not get referred to a specialist?

Dermatologists recommend moderate exposure to sun/ sunbeds for psoriasis and it does help. Tar based ointments also do and there is some evidence that Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids do help with skin conditions.

You could try experimenting cutting out different food groups from your diet. Dairy is often the biggest offender so worth trying to cut that out first. You should see results within 2 weeks if that's the problem. Good luck

Check u got got a serious infection (and i dont mean a STI!) I'm a carrier and mine broke out after a really bad throat infection, cant spell it but starts like "strep"!!! I was completely covered. Went for Cold Tar treatment. Every day for 2 hours, for 4 months. Doc refered me. And it went completely.

Since the beginning of the year though its come back. I have a stitch left over from my last c-section 6 years ago, that likes to break down the skin every month, which is an infection and also have an infected gall bladder which is due out soon. So these bring back the rash!

It's all going back now, not so dry or red, but it does look like I'm a leopard when naked!!!! (cue dark room under covers for any new meets!! lol)

Try not the use the steroid creams for too long as it damages the good skin. A good moisturiser works wonders, ask yr doc. Sun beds will make u burn but doc can refer u for light treatment. T-gel is good for yr hair, or again ask the doc.

Any more advice or hints or just to chat, message me. I know exactly how u feel x x x

was gonna suggest coal tar soap. Ask for an oil based cream (an emolient like Double Base or Diprobase) You should be able to get a referral to get ultra violet skin treatment. Works well for acne and skin conditions. But not sunbeds, they work differently.

So having a six week treatment and seeing how it goes. Have had allergy tests and nothing came out mine is due to stress and hormones. Just wondered if anyone had alternative ideas. Will try the added vitamins and omega.

UV treatment in hospital is very carefully controlled and using a sunbed outside the hospital setting makes it difficult to ensure that you are receiving the correct dose. Pure UVA sunbeds are also ineffective for the treatment of psoriasis.

This is a quote from the psoriasis association. Hope this helps. They have a website which is very informative.

Look for a Soap called Aleppo, it derives from Syria and is 80% pure Olive Oil and 15-20% Laurel Oil.

You can bathe, wash your hair, and men can shave with it.

It is also known as Savon d'Alep.

You can buy it in some specialist soap shops and online.

Also look for natural Argan Oil, again this comes from Syria/Morocco. You can rub this oil into your scalp before washing with Aleppo Soap.

Aleppo Soap costs about £5-£6 for a 200g bar, liquid Aleppo Soap harder to find) costs about £12 for 250ml.

Argan Oil is around £10 for 100ml.

I have suffered from it for a long long time....

the stuff that i have found does help a lot is aloe vera

either get yourself a plant and grow some, and you can pick it off as an when...

holland and barrett also do pure aloe vera gel... it can be a bit pricey.. but they are always doing 2 for 1's or buy 1 and get the 2nd half price.....

Dead Sea Salts are also good for Psoriasis and Eczema, you need to ensure that you use unscented salts though.

Soak in a bath of warm water with 500g to 1 Kilo of Dead Sea Salts, or Himalayan Pink Salts for a minimum of 30 minutes once a week.

i get eczema in my hair and find that t gel helps that but burns the skin on my ears! but i find that if i mix it half and half with a good quality dandruff shampoo then its fine and clears things up.

also the little fish that people use for pedicures have been used for years in their native turkey to treat psoriasis and other skin conditions. they eat only dead skin and remove all the flaky, thickened skin. they have something in their saliva which has particularly good healing properties. i seem to recall there is/was a treatment centre in wales where you could immerse your full body in the tank with the fish...

You are right to use sun beds Shaz, part of the treatment as an inpatient for severe cases is UVA cabinets, 10 mins every other day, insist that your Doc refers you to a specialist, if its getting too bad, steroid creams only help in part. Hope you feel better soon xxx

Don't limit yourself when thinking "going out". A day in the country picniking alone, with friends, family or the kids can be of great benefit. A long walk across the fields, say an hour, can re-source you. Try and fit more of these in.

There's a shampoo not a tar one its a lovely green one called aphrosil you can get it from the doctor on prescription or buy it from the chemists. It comes with a conditioner built in and you have to leave it in for ten mins rinse and repeat for another ten mins but doesn't smell the same as the tar ones and it. Works it stops the skin cells reproducing so quickly which is what the crustastion like top layer of the skin is, skin cells that are growing to quick that coupled with a steroids cream works wonders with sunlight should get it running scared. It's hard as things only work or seem to work for so long good luck though.

I get dandruff but get greasy hair so dont need a shampoo for dry scalp, i use selsun which is good, have tried coal tar shampoos and everything else, but they made it worse, also tried coal tar on my poodle when she had eczema and made it worse on her too. I get patches of eczema on my face and ears doctor gave me some good ointment but he said i cant keep using it all the time because it thins the skin and i would get ulcers. He gave me some diprobase cream. Some herbal type creams and oils you can get on ebay are quite good, eucerin cream is the best though.

my ex wife suffered badly, also my brother in law is covered, totally, from the neck down.

both enjoyed relieved symptoms after a break in the sun abroad.

last time my brother in law went away, he went to cancun in mexico, by the end of 2 weeks in the sun and the sea, it was barely noticeable, could not believe how quickly it started to go.

think it was a mixture of sun & salt water, i know its not a permanant fix unless you move abroad, but maybe some sun could bring some relief.

My dads had this for 24 years and is covered head to toe, he has biological injections to slow the skin growth which left him completely clear for 2 years. He was hospitalised for 6 weeks a few years ago because his internal organs were shutting down. And they used petroleum jellie twice a day for 5 weeks and it cleared up messy but good. Hope it helps
