A teenager has been convicted of smashing his ex-girlfriend's skull in with a rock after a friend promised him a free breakfast.

Rebecca Aylward, 15, of Maesteg, near Bridgend, was left lying face down in the rain after the brutal attack last October.

Joshua Davies lured her to a wood near her home, then attacked her with a rubgy ball-sized rock.

The two teenagers had a brief relationship which had finished by the end of 2009.

When Davies invited Rebecca to meet him in the wood, she thought they may be getting back together.

But instead Davies brutally battered her to death.

The 16-year-old had talked so often of killing her to friends that it became a regular topic of conversation between them.

One even went so far as to jokingly promise him a free breakfast if he carried out his threat.

now if ever there was an example of 'life' becoming seen as disposable...

shocking...

I saw this report on the news last night and sadly, it didn't come as a shock to me.

Just like the young couple who were killed on their honeymoon for loose change and a mobile phone.

The thing I found most unbelievable about this case, is it took the jury 3 days to convict at 10-2 majority. What on earth is going on in their heads?

Because of the accusation that it was 'the friend' of the accused that either carried out the murder, or carried it out with the accused.

Obviously not, as I was not present in court. But I followed the story in the major press, and found no reason for that amount of deliberation in this case.

Then you will have read that there was a counter allegation that 'The friend' was indeed the murderer....after all he never rang the police when he found that the girl had been murdered did he?

Instead he went to another friends house with the guilty party and chatted about the killing over a cup of tea.

Maybe, just maybe, some members of the jury thought this worthy of spending Three days to deliberate over?

And it's their decision that is all important to the case...

Or the young couple attacked for the Goth clothes they wore, the young girl died from the attack
