Should the nation open up a few Buckingham palace rooms, for use by those who have lost their home in the fire?

I think there are probably easier and quicker places to open up. Four Travel Lodges would probably cover it and they won't need to spend thousands on extra security

No Buckingham Palace is owned by the crown estate for the royal family. Would you like other people being forced to be put into your home?

I do however, understand where you're coming from and I believe that enough is being done to help them.

After hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey, then mayor of Newark Cory Booker (now a Senator for NJ) opened his home up to people who had lost theirs. They could charge their devices and sleep on the floors. It was a really meaningful act. Just sayin'

I'm sure that the local authority have completed their duties and taken a part 7 homeless application and then dispersed the victims into possibly hotel accommodation while they figure out what the fuck they are going to do...15 years I have worked in social housing and this was a nightmare waiting to happen...

Exactly! There's doing the right thing, doing something that gives something of value to those in need and secondly making a public statement that people are important.

The PM popped along yesterday and didn't meet a single one of those affected so tragically.

Corbyn talked about requisitioning houses. Should only be done in war time and if you read this article it would give you some real information, I cant put in links so Google reality check: can the government requisition homes.

Also creates a shortage driving up house prices further.Social services will also help those in more need first.

Are they properties that they have available to supply to people Lickety? I can imagine hundreds of vacant investment properties too.

I'd say yes to Buckingham palace - it's just a place and our people come first. It's been acquired through the toils and hardships of the many, not the privileged few. It's almost the perfect second use for it just now.

There are whole blocks of flats empty as investment properties. K&C has also been keeping some places empty as part of their land sell off.

There are probably more local and more relevant places then Buckingham Palace,

Friends/Family yes I know a lot of them lost both friends and family but not all of them, Hotels, Homes to rent or what are for sale, Maybe the council could do a deal with estate agents to temporary accommodate them until a solution is found

The council has said no accommodation is needed, they are all homed now. It's a tragic event, seems seedy how it is being grabbed for political posturing.

Which means in the long term they are not homeless and will not be re-housed?

We have to be very careful that the people made homeless get another house and not temporary housing.

It is a minefield where people given lodgings in others houses lose the right to be re-homed

Property owners, not the rich kind, have their properties compulsorily purchased below market rate. Just look at the Heygate for another London example.
