First she says we should let all the migrants in from the camps over in France... when challenged to open her doors and let some stay with her... she goes silent.

Then she tries to prove she's a greenie by saying she will buy a Prius... and gets snapped in her new Merc jeep.

And now she's trying to jump on the bandwagon of blame by claiming that the media have deliberately misled the public by claiming that the number of dead from tower block fire was lower than it actually is... completely missing the fact that the media only report what the Police tell them when its about victim numbers.

We all know the number will rise unfortunately, but if the media starting making up numbers or guessing and then the number was actually lower, they would be in trouble.

its time this little pop-moppet stuck to what she (some say) is good at, which is making songs.

Allen said...

"Seventeen? I'm sorry but I'm hearing from people that the figure is much closer to 150, and that many of those people are children.

"Those are off the record numbers I've been given from policemen and from firemen."

Snow (interviewer) responded by saying that he was aware of the fact that the number of confirmed dead is likely to increase "very considerably", but pointed out that difficulties identifying victims may have hindered reporting of the true number of fatalities.

"I appreciate the difficulties with identifying bodies, but there are people out here clinging to hope when I don't think there is any," Allen later said on Twitter."

Clinging to hope?

It's awful that so many have died, but anyone involved will know, no matter how you try to slice it, that if they haven't heard from a friend or more especially from a relative by now, they aren't going to.

Yes, the confirmed fatalities number is low, but rising steadily, but everyone knows that those that are "missing" will eventually be added to the fatalities list.

But, isn't it better to wait and be sure, before giving a family the devastating news that their missing relative is dead? Can you imagine the anger if they got it wrong... unlikely though that is?

She needs to fuck off and maybe do a charity single or something within her sphere of expertise, and leave the grandstanding and politics to the politicians.

Erm, hello!

But seriously, you're right, as long as it means someone else paying or doing they're full of do-gooder deeds.

While no doubt using all those "awful" Tory policies like letting rich people get away tax avoidance, comes across as a Champagne Socialist to me.

Perhaps those numbers are very hard to verify? There may have been people staying in the tower who weren't registered as living there or others who haven't been reported missing as they don't have many friends or family in the country? Plus rescue and recovery teams haven't been able to access all areas yet due to structural issues.

actually she was born in the area and came back to live in the area and had been volunteering in the area..... so she might have her ear to the ground a bit better than most...

I do think she has a point in while the media concentrate on the number dead, nowhere near enough coverage/press has been given to the number classed as missing..... and that kinda underplays exactly how bad this tragedy this....

So, how many are missing?

How many people had friends staying over that might not be listed anywhere?

How many people weren't at home?

We all know the final death toll is going to be a lot higher than the current list of confirmed dead, but until every corner of the building is searched, no-one actually knows how many there will be, and unfortunately, not every body found will be able to be identified, some may remain as "missing" forever.

Once they have cleared the building, we will know how many died in the fire, but we may not know for absolute certainty who they all were.

"

police have said there are at least 70 people that have been reported to them and classed as missing.....

the local housing assoc would have a list of people who were housed at that tower.... they have refused to list a number (they don't have to gave all the names).....

and i am sure the police are cross-referencing that list to those who are in hospitals, and those the council have having to rehouse.....

so yes..... i am sure they have an idea of how many are potentially dead.... because when the words "three digits" were mentioned, they certainly didn't rush out to dispute it....

so yes we may well be absolutely be underplaying the amount of dead.....

and i am not going to knock someone in the area who is angry about what has happened and talking about it just because they happen to be famous....

envy is poisonous...... its an excuse to have a pop.....

I saw her speaking to Jon Snow and thought she was articulate and thoughtful. Her point about under reporting predicted deaths is a good one.

Someone must have an idea of how many people cannot be accounted for and there is no reason for this estimate to be kept secret. Unless it's to pretend this is less of a tragedy than it clearly is.

In The Great Fire reports stated only six people died! This is now accepted as incorrect and was a result of poor people not being recorded. We can't allow history to be repeated in this way just because it's difficult.

There is already a well quoted figure in the media of Circa 70 Unaccounted for. However at this time it probably isn't possible to give an exact figure as there will have been ppl in the block who weren't residents. I guess officials don't like to quote guesstimates for fear of looking incompetent if significantly wrong.

Where has the figure of 70 come from, there appears to be no officoal source that I can see?

Very few people are in hospital given the number of people in thay buolding. Firefighters were on the scene within minutes but never even got halfway up, the advice was stay put, there numerous reports of people losing contact with loved ones and friends in the early hours. All of that is very, very ominous.

Thatcher once said that when pw8attack her for her personality then it's because theybe got nothing left to say about her policies. Obviously the Tories have forgotten that in recent months but I thought it relevant to this thread as people repeatedly attack a person for their opposing political views. It's pretty unpleasant

I honestly don't think anyone is trying to underplay the extent of this tragedy. It's common practice to only count as dead those actually confirmed as dead and not initially count those missing in the numbers. There are very good legal reasons for this.

Clearly many people are rightly angry but misdirecting that anger in the wrong direction won't help find out what or who has gone or done wrong.

Of course you can't count missing people in the numbers of fatalities. But it is common to hear "X amount confirmed dead and y amount missing" or to hear "z amount feared dead"

She can but there is no evidence of a cover up in the numbers of deaths, the emergency services are just following the standard practice of only reporting as dead those who have been confirmed as dead. Whilst I personally quite like Ms Allan, as a relatively public figure, should check her facts more carefully before making allegation, that are almost definitely untrue, and could possibly lead to a lot of misdirected anger that won't help to actually find out what or who has gone wrong.
