Scam

Just thought I would warn everyone about a scam operating at the moment.

My son has for the last few weeks been looking for a job after leaving his last one. He has signed on with many agencies, some completely useless, he has logged onto the Jobcentre website on a daily basis and visited the Gloucester Jobcentre looking for work.

On one of his many visits, he saw a job as a warehouse person and rang up to put his name forward. The man he spoke to called him back following a check and offered him the job. He said that he would be sending him his uniform in the post and my son should stay at home which he did. Sometime in the morning, a parcel arrived, inside was a package containing a brand new Iphone. My son rang the guy he had spoken to and told him, he said he was really sorry and that the phone was for the "driver" but another parcel would be on its way. My son and his girlfriend then went back to their flat when I got home. Whilst I was at home, 2 parcels were delivered; one was another brand new Iphone and the other a brand new Samsung all these phones were in my sons name. He then rang the guy again who then pretended to shout at someone in the background. He arranged to meet my son the following day but of course he never showed up.

He has since found out following a visit to the Jobcentre that it is all a scam, the lady there was very apologetic and said that it was under investigation but did promise to put a good word in for my son at another job he had applied for at another new Tescos in Gloucester

I forgot to say that my son had to report it to the police who really couldnt give a toss but at least he has an incident number, plus go to 2 phone shops and tell them, both of whom were a lot more supportive

So he's got two iPhones and a Samsung - for free?

Am I missing something here? How is this a scam, apart from the fact he still doesn't have a job, which leaves him exactly where he was before but with three new phones he can sell.

Sorry incredibly tired when I wrote it, should have done it later when I was awake.

My son doesn't have the phones as the man he had been dealing with arranged to have them all collected from my house, so now he has no phones but 3 contracts all in his name

He gave his bank details so has had to speak to the fraud team at his bank and change his account

of course his son has 3 new phones, but its still a form of fraud surely? The warehouse guys were using her sons details to obtain phones with the intentions of selling them on perhaps as they made out they were for a 'driver'

id be pissed off

No he didnt have to pay for the uniform, just sit at home to wait for it to be delivered, except it wasnt. His bank details were for his wages to be paid into but of course he would have been paying for the contract mobile phones

Almost everything is paperless now. You can get anything without a sig.

no, every mobile phone contract I have had has been sorted over the phone/online and never had to sign for any of them, unless signing for the package when it arrives counts as signing for your contract?

Everytime I have upgraded over the phone I have always had to sign and return documented when I received my phone
