Saw a report late last week or early this week stating that STDs are on the rise.

Which fine, it's summer, people are gonna go bareback and play roulette.

But later in it it stated that it was predominantly gay guys passing them to bi guys passing them to women.

It kinda annoyed me that apparently gay folks start it and women only get them because blokes can't keep it in their trousers.

Reminded me a bit about how the gay community caused aids and women only got it from promiscuous bi guys.

More random summer time shagging apparently than winter time..

More folks out and about getting pissed or meeting up on the ubiquitous 18_30 hols..

You refer to "the gay community starting aids and women only getting it from promiscuous bi guys" The people "catching" anything have a responsibility for their own sexual health. More people should use protection

Sorry, I might have come across like I was saying "it's the gays fault", totally wasn't.

Normally I word stuff better than this

I personally think it's bollocks and that the report clearly wanted to blame the gay community for it.

Pretty certain it was Mondays metro that it featured in.

STI's being a gay plague? That clearly makes a lot of sense.

I am not gay but I did enjoy "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" and "Cabaret" so am I at risk of a minor infection?

It was actually a health issue, alot of troops would see whores as they might be dead soon, so anything would spread much more than in peacetime..

I suppose there's a greater risk of infection from unprotected anal, like urinery tract infections, but not for classic std's like clymidia.

But at the end of the day some folks will only rubber up for sex, others are Wellington free, some don't care either way, some bare for partners but covered for others.

There's quite a few theories on how it came to be and the infection rates that rocketed so dramatically.

Some say, like you posit, that Americans made it to destroy a culture they saw as a huge financial strain.

Others that it occurred naturally despite there being no precursor infections of the same type so it must have been "from god to punish the wicked" (though why he'd want to punish a musical that wasn't made yet is beyond me..).

In a similar vein as the standard "Americans made it" There's also the theory that it was made as a weapon of war, supposedly not transferable to certain genetic backgrounds, but the scientists fucked up because genetics wasn't as well researched then as it is now. Sounds like a lot of horror films plots to me thb

But yeah, loads of theories on it.

The thing is with genetics we are all a Heinz 57. Therefore trying to isolate it would only work if the subjects stuck to their own genetic race. However should they mix with someone who has both or several genetic makeups (mixed race). It's easier to transfer.

I remember the other theory about catching off loo seats.

"

Yup, thankfully we're well past those "Don't mix with XYZ" days, though some political groups still want that segregation in society

As for loo seats... In school the rumour of girls getting pregnant from using the boys loos...

Then again who knows what they was upto in there..

I also heard you couldn't get pregnant if the girl only bounces 100 times or less because that's not sex...

It's a surprising report considering that it's politically incorrect to say anything remotely against geys !

I think that promiscuity is the main culprit. People in monogamous intimate relationship go through life just fine with no STD ever.

Oh my days !

We all have a responsibility to look after ourselves .

What a dull and uninspiring community it would be without the TVs , bi guys , gay guys and the LGBT members .

Although I'm not bi myself , the fun we have had with the bi guys on here has been fantastic . And the tv/ cd/ ts..... well that's on another level ! This has allowed my bi selfish side to be satiated beyond my wildest dreams .

So all the anti gay and bisexual folk can fill their boots with their scurrilous comments , we know the real truth and cleanliness is just as well observed in their world as it is in yours .

But, risk of catching something changes with every partner you have, and those risks change depending on their sexual activities.

HIV-1 is believed to have developed in humans in the 1930's through eating chimpanzee meat infected with SIV.

The first known case of HIV in a human occurs in a man who died in the Congo, later (from his preserved blood samples) confirmed as having HIV infection.[3][4] The authors of the study did not sequence a full virus from his samples, writing that "attempts to amplify HIV-1 fragments of 300 base pairs (bp) were unsuccessful ... However, after numerous attempts, four shorter sequences were obtained"; these represented small portions of two of the six genes of the complete HIV genome.[4]

June 28, in New York City, Ardouin Antonio, a 49-year-old Jamaican-American shipping clerk dies of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, a disease closely associated with AIDS. Gordon Hennigar, who performed the postmortem examination of the man's body, found "the first reported instance of unassociated Pneumocystis carinii disease in an adult" to be so unusual that he preserved Ardouin's lungs for later study. The case was published in two medical journals at the time,[5][6] and Hennigar has been quoted in numerous publications saying that he believes Ardouin probably had AIDS.[7][8][9][10]

1960s

HIV-2, a viral variant found in West Africa, is thought to have transferred to people from sooty mangabey monkeys in Guinea-Bissau.[11][medical citation needed]

1964

Jerome Horwitz of Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University School of Medicine synthesize AZT under a grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). AZT was originally intended as an anticancer drug.

1966

Genetic studies of the virus indicate that, in or about 1966, HIV first arrived in the Americas, infecting one person in Haiti. At this time, many Haitians were working in Congo, providing the opportunity for infection.[12][medical citation needed]

1968

A 2003 analysis of HIV types found in the United States, compared to known mutation rates, suggests that the virus may have first arrived in the United States in this year.[11] The disease spread from the 1966 American strain, but remained unrecognized for another 12 years.[12][medical citation needed] This is, however, contradicted by the estimated area of time of initial infection of Robert Rayford who was most likely infected around 1959.

1969

A St. Louis teenager, identified as Robert Rayford, dies of an illness that baffles his doctors. Eighteen years later, molecular biologists at Tulane University in New Orleans test samples of his remains and find evidence of HIV.[13]

1975

The first reports of wasting and other symptoms, later determined to be AIDS, are reported in residents of Africa.[14][medical citation needed]

The daughter of Arvid Noe dies in January 1975.

1976

Norwegian sailor Arvid Noe dies; it is later determined that he contracted HIV/AIDS in Africa during the early 1960s.

1977

Danish physician Grethe Rask dies of AIDS contracted in Africa.

A San Francisco prostitute gives birth to the first of three children who were later diagnosed with AIDS. The children's blood was tested after their deaths and revealed an HIV infection. The mother died of AIDS in May 1987. Test results show she was infected no later than 1977.[15][medical citation needed]

1978

A Portuguese man known as Senhor José (English: Mr. Joseph) dies; he will later be confirmed as the first known infection of HIV-2. It is believed that he was exposed to the disease in Guinea-Bissau in 1966.[citation needed]

A 34-year-old airline secretary who was treated in Brussels since autumn 1977, dies in Kinshasa in early 1978.[16]

1979

An early case of AIDS in the United States was of a female baby born in New Jersey in 1973 or 1974. She was born to a sixteen-year-old girl, an identified drug-injector, who had previously had multiple male sexual partners. The baby died in 1979 at the age of five. Subsequent testing on her stored tissues confirmed that she had contracted HIV-1.[17][18][unreliable medical source?]

It's promiscuous straight clubland and swingers and users of prostitutes, injectors of drugs.

The gay community have had health education since the 1980's rammed down their throats. It's the pink plague, it's a punishment from god, I got bullied at school with people saying not to fucking touch me or they would catch aids.

Apart from sucking cock, I haven't had sex without a rubber unless I was in a proper relationship.

There are more d*unk straights squirting up each other than anyone else hence the amount of single mothers and unplanned pregnancies.

MODE OF TRANSMISSION

Over 95% of people living with HIV in the UK have acquired HIV through sex without a condom

People living with HIV who were exposed through heterosexual sex are the largest group, though those exposed through sex between men is a close second

Of those receiving HIV care in 2015, 41,945 (48%) were exposed through sex between a man and a woman, 41,016 (47%) were exposed through sex between men, 1,909 (2%) were exposed from injecting drug use, 1,383 (less than 2%) were exposed before or shortly after birth and 753 were exposed from blood/receiving blood products. This latter category only included people exposed outside of the UK, as this is no longer a route of transmission within the UK. There are also 1,763 cases which have not been categorised by one of these routes

Straights 1% higher

Well I've been ridiculously promiscuous since I was a teenager but I've always practiced safe sex and I've never caught anything. The only times I've not used condoms is when in a proper relationship where we both got tested and weren't cheating, and the three times I was sexually assaulted when I was involved in prostitution.

"Somebody had the have caught it first. It's a case of chicken/egg.

Wonder who the first case of HIV in a human was."

They don't know exactly but there has been a study that points to HIV being present as early as 1910 as a result of three strains of the simian virus jumping the species barrier. The first people are most likely to have contracted it via butchering monkeys.

It was in the Congo. In north america; patient zero is gaetan dugas, who worked for an airline which helped spread it around nicely.

Despite all the other bullshit on this thread, men who have sex with other men are a higher risk of STDs. Sorry if anyone is offended by facts. "

makes sense to me, I guess it would be easiest for a gay man to pass it on due to it being easier to have slight tears in the anus, and sperm going right in there. and again passing on to bi guys the same way. and it might be easier then to pass it on to a woman as again, sperm goes right in there. But statistics tell me the fastest rising demographic for infection is between heterosexuals. Maybe because they don't feel it is such a risk for them? who knows? what I do know is that anyone having sex without protection (and yes this has included myself at some times) must take responsibility for themselves. And I do believe there's a special place in hell for those of any sexual persuasion that know they are infected but go bareback anyway. But surely they must be in the minority. Moral of the story... look after your own safety. You cannot be sure anyone else will. Christ even on here there's married folk fucking around bare, their clueless partners who presumably also play bare with them having no idea the added risks they are taking. That's just cold

to be fair I read it that he was talking about it with sarcasm, like he did not agree with what was being said. Think its often harder to get that kind of thing across in text as people take what is being written at face value, no tone of voice or facial expression to tell them otherwise. just how i read it anyway
